That plastic bin with the high sides would have terrible airflow for the piggy. For an inexpensive temporary enclosure, you can use a plastic tablecloth or shower curtain as the bottom and grids as the wall.

Oh dear! Thanks for telling me those tips! Would this kill the guinea pig? I have seen pet shops keep their animals in these bins so I thought it was ok

Please don't put the pig in a tote. If there are no other animals around (such as dogs or cats) that might bother the guinea pig, you could use a shallow swimming pool. Or even just put a shower curtain on the floor and pen the pig up with boxes around the sides. Or put it in the bathtub.

I found you have a rescue or humane society in town, they very often have used cages cheap. I picked one up for $10 that was suitable for a guinea pig temporarily to travel or in case of emergency. Otherwise I see them at thrift shops from time to time as well.

I can't believe I forgot about the shallow swimming poo that @bpatters mentionedl. That is what I used to quarantine my new piggy, a kiddie plastic pool. You do need some kind of barrier (grids or cardboard) on the outside as my piggy climbed over the side the side of the kiddie pool and slipped to the ground. Not sure how she did that as the sides are slippery. I did have grids surrounding it so she wasn't able to do escape.

A plastic kiddie's pool is what I use to put my pigs in while I clean their cage. They really work well as a temporary holding place. Just like @SSLee, one of my pigs when she was just a baby climbed out of it. I had only had her for a few days and she was a tiny little thing so I have no idea how she got out. I went into the other room to get something and was gone for just a few seconds and when I came back she was sitting in the middle of the room. I think it surprised her more than it did me. She never attempted to climb out again.
