    Guinea pig Lymph Node Abscess

Tonight I was going to pick up my new male guinea pig that I got two months ago and he seems to have a Lymph Node Adscess. I have had guinea pigs for 10 years and have never had this problem before.

Does it just feel like the one abscess? Is it still intact or has it burst? Does he live with other guinea pigs?

I'm sorry your boy has this problem. Hopefully a trip to the vet can sort him out, it is a simple problem, and he heals quickly.

It is one abscess and it has not burst yet. My guinea pig midnight does not live with other guinea pigs. The other day when i was puting new paper bedding in his cage i did not see the abscess on him.

Re: Guinea pig Lymph Node Abscess

That is all good news, if it is just the one and it has not burst it should be much simpler to treat. I asked about other guinea pigs as there can be a condition that causes lymph node abscesses that is contagious to other guinea pigs.

Abscesses can grow in size remarkably quickly, and it can be hard to catch them when small particularly in their neck area.

Hopefully he can see the vet before it gets too much bigger, best wishes for his recovery from this.

I would definitely get him to an exotic vet. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck are often cervical lymphadenitis, which is very contagious to other guinea pigs. See http://www.guinealynx.info/lumps.html.
