My guinea pig Buttercup started making this new noise. Im afraid it may be a cold. What do you think?

Does she only make it when she eats?

No. I heard her making the same sounds when she was in the cage. Though she repeats the sound more times when se eats. Other than the different sounds her pattern of behavior is the same. As is her apetite.

My boar, Sly, used to make this sound. Almost always while eating. A good loud cough would usually clear it. As it turns out later in life.......he may have had heart issues all along. Heart issues are known to cause malocclusion from what I've read. "Hooting" as it were, is a sign of a heart issue.

How old is she? If she were mine, I'd get her in to see a vet and get her heart checked.

Youd go to the vet even if she stopped making that noise?

If she's stopped making the noise, I wouldn't take her to the vet. I'd just watch her and see if it recurs, and if you can determine any sort of a pattern about what's going on when you hear it.
