Hi everyone I recently got two guinea pigs. We were told they were both males (the common story) but it turned out one was actually a girl! We separated them as soon as we could but I think I might of been two late. Lately my girl has seemed to gotten bigger. It only has been two weeks since separating and I would predict she is roughly 4 weeks at min in to her pregnancy but truthfully she could be farther in and we wouldn’t know it. I just wanted to see what you all thought about how she looked. The first two photos (closest two the title) that are here, are from today (two weeks after separating her from the boy). The last three are from the day when we separated them (two weeks ago). Also I know I accidentally posted two of the same photo from the day we separated them. Thank you!

Ok, that is good to know. I have never had to deal with a guinea pregnancy before so I am new to it. If anyone else has a comment I am glad to know what they think as well.

The following are the most helpful things I could know if anyone wants to answer these following questions
A. Do you think she is pregnant?
B. How far along in her pregnancy if you think she’s pregnant would you guess?
c. From a scale of one to ten ( ten being absolutely yes and one being absolutely no ) how sure are you that you think she may be pregnant?

Once again thank Hanks you so much for your help!

We can't guess from a picture. Her size depends to a great degree on how many pups there are. A pig with one pup may only barely look pregnant, while one with several pups will be enormous.

Did you read that link I gave you? It includes several ways for YOU, with the pig in your hands, to be able to estimate how far along she is. There's no possible way for us to know.

My tip:

1. Read all the info in the forum regarding pregnancy, including information about risks and complications. bpatters has already given you info to get you started

2. Keep the male and female completely separate... Do not put them together for even "supervised" play in the future

3. Make sure the male can't "accidentally" get to the female by making sure her cage has a secure lid

4. If you suspect pregnancy make sure she has a healthy diet and use careful handling techniques to avoid stressing her out or injuring

5. If she is unfortunately pregnant, separate the boys from Mom and the girls at 3 weeks to avoid further pregnancies

Thank you candalalala. I’ve had her for a few month and she was pretty much full grown then and lately in the past few weeks she has only gotten bigger. I thought I might of felt kicking and heard teeth chattering from the babbies this morning but I could be wrong.

Before hearing teeth gnashing from babies you will be able to feel and see the babies moving and/or kicking.

As far as knowing for sure if she is pregnant or not from the pictures, it is hard to tell.

I had two adopted females who were pregnant before I adopted them, one became huge and had litters before so she did ok. The other barely looked pregnant, had complications during delivery that resulted in a death. It is one thing reading about pregnancy being difficult on guinea pigs and quite another to see it first hand. I never want to go through that again nor would I want someone else to either, hence the suggestions I gave you earlier.

In the meantime, what are you doing to prepare for potential babies?

All opinions are welcome. The main thing I would like to know is if you think my girl is prego?
Thank you!

So far for preparation for the babies I am making sure the cage is baby proof and no babies can escape, I am feeding momma green pepper, spinach, lettuce, cutecumber and a little bit of apple as well as alfalfa and Timothy hay and her normal pellet feed.

Her normal pellet feed is wild harvest advanced nutrition. Her cage size is 3.5ft times 2 ft.

Those guinea pig pellets are mostly junk and are not considered a healthy diet.

Oxbow and KMS pellets are recommended.

Also make sure all pigs have a large amount of unlimited good quality hay

That cage is a bit small for 1 pig. Please read on the forum for proper cage size.

Is it a c&c cage? ...Anyway you can make it a bit bigger?
