    Re: Different hay cuttings

1st cut: more stiffer & thinner stems, more seed heads, high fiber

2nd cut: some thin stems, some leafy, some seed heads (between 1st and 3rd cut). Great choice for multiple guinea pigs.

    3rd cut: softer and leafy

The online hay sites generally have a detailed description regarding each cut of Timothy and each kind of hay.

    Re: Different hay cuttings

When they cut the hay if the weather is right the grass will regrow and they will be able to cut again from the same crop. The difference is usually in the amount of stem and seed heads in the cuts. The second and third cuts usually produce better hay for guinea pigs as it contains less stems and more of the soft grass strands that they love.
