    Piggy behaving weirdly

Okay so I put my piggies together after introducing them and things have been great. They both have been eating and drinking normally. But lately my oldest doesn't like to sit in my lap for long which isn't normal at all. He normally sits on my chest for 30 minutes but he won't even make it to 5. I've tried treats, lettuce and his favorite fruit, nothing.

If I take Cosmo out (my youngest) my oldest will start biting the cage and making noises.

I feel like he's mad at me but I didn't think they could be mad at their owner.

Is there anything I can do, it breaks my heart.

Unfortunately for us, guinea pigs prefer each others' company to ours. He's probably just wanting to be back with his buddy.

Okay so it's not personal? Should I try sitting with him away from the cage?

It's not personal at all. Piggies just prefer their own company over any other. Their behaviour may change as they get used to you holding one or the other, it may not. But the more you do it, the more they will both become accustomed to it.

Honestly, the MOST important thing is that they get along with each other. If they do, you're already well ahead of the game.

That's the best you can hope for. Everything after that as far as them being held and whatnot, is up to the pig whether he'll like it or not. If you feed him tasty treats while you hold him (either pig) they'll come to associate lap time with a treat, and they'll tolerate it better.

    Re: Piggy behaving weirdly

Cavies are as different as we humans are. Sometimes it takes a long time and a LOT of patience for a cavy to be comfortable and loving to us. My Sparky seemed to love us almost from the beginning and is a very calm, loving little soul. OTOH, Chip is high-strung, nervous, mischievous, and can be aggressive. For a long time, he was a biter and simply could not sit with us during lap time for very long. When he did sit with us, he would "sing" so loudly that we couldn't hear the t.v. It was so annoying that we often put him back in the cage early.

But, we never gave up and kept working with him. He is now 2 yr. 8 mo. old and has become the most delightful little soul. Instead of biting, he now has become this obesssive licker and the singing has diminished in volume, intensity and frequency. He will come out for lap time for a couple of hours (in the evening) and seems to enjoy the experience rather than just tolerating it.

Give your boy time......he'll likely come around.

The thing is, he always loved being with me. He always loved to be perched on my chest. Other than this morning, he hasn't wanted to stay with me since I got my new piggie last Monday
