Hi everyone

Our GP gave birth sometime during the night to 3 pups. All has been great so far but just recently the cagemate has starting acting aggressively towards the pups. Is this normal and does anyone have any advice on how to handle it? I?ve separated her from the pups for now.

Thanks

Re: Cagemate disolaying unfriendly behaviour

How aggressively? Does she just nip at them if they try to nurse from her, or is she instigating the unfriendly behavior? What is she doing to them?

Guinea pig sows generally make very good aunties. But all of them, the moms and all, teach them how to behave by nipping them to stop unwanted behavior.

She seemed to be instigating it, she would nip at them, then the mother would nip at the Aunt like she was protecting the pups.
