Size Is this DIY bookcase too small?

Hello! I'm adopting two young female Guinea Pigs on Wednesday and am planning on creating a DIY cage. I'm basing the cage off of a bookshelf. It's 71 inches tall, and the width of each shelf (total of 5) is 29 inches. However, the depth of it is 11 5/16 inches. I plan on making the top three into a cage with ramps. Will this be too small?

Additional levels (and height) do nothing for pigs. They need flat open space to run and exercise. At least 10 Sq feet of open flat space - 12 is preferred.

Did you already have the bookshelf? If you do, you could lay it on it's back and put some waterproof material on the bottom. It will make a good cage for 2 pigs.
