Hi,
I have two female guinea pigs that are approximately 2 1/2 months old. However, they are really small so I'm not certain of their age. They are about the size of my hand, from my wrist to then end of my middle finger. They were living together when I got them. I've had them since July 7th, 2017. I just noticed that one of my guinea pigs cheek fur is very wet. If the fur on her cheek is very wet (thick!), is that blood? My finger didn't turn red when I touched it but I've never seen her cheek so wet before. What else would cause her fur near her cheek to be so wet? I picked her up and checked her out ... I don't see a scratch. However, she is Abyssinian or Peruvian and her long fur makes it hard to tell. This morning, I also heard a high pitched squeal from one of my girls. I've never heard anything that loud from the girls before. It definitely wasn't a "please feed me" sound. I was in the other room so I didn't actually see anything. I did examine both girls and they looked fine. My other guinea pig looks like she might be missing fur exactly where her "sister" pushes her, but there is no scratch. The fur might just be sticking up. I have observed a lot of: rumble-strutting, chasing, mounting, etc. I also noticed lots of "tender-looking" barbering. I haven't been able to figure out which one is the dominant one which makes me even more worried because I really don't want to separate them. If they were 2 and half when I got them, one could be entering adolescence now. OH NO!!
I feel dumb for asking what blood looks like on a guinea pig, but I'd rather be safe than sorry... I've only ever seen a scratch on a nose.
