Hi I'm New and have a problem:(

Ive searched the internet but couldnt find amything I accidentally got my guinea pigs antibiotic medicine in his eye because he moved away as I was giving it to him. Should I worry? I washed it with a wet tissue and wiped it away straight away. We have our third post op appointment Sunday, should I get one sooner?

Can I ask you what was the name of the antibiotic medication? Most likely your piggy will be fine but knowing what it was would help to answer your question.

The recommendation if Baytril gets in the eyes is to flush the eye with water for quite a while. They say 15 minutes. If you notice eye irritation then you need to see a veterinarian.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you are in the US and have a 24 hour animal emergency clinic nearby I would call them and hopefully someone there would give you answer.

Not all hospitals will give advice without seeing the pet, but some will. When you just need advice about a medication that you've already been prescribed many places will help you out. It's worth a call.

Good luck. I'm sure your piggy will not have any effects from just a small amount getting in his eye.

Thank you so much :3 I tried to flush it for as long as he'd let me, he's a fidget.
I'm in the UK, I don't know of any open 24hrs. I'll try to see if his vets will help me over the phone tomorrow.
He seems his happy self so I'm hoping he'll be okay:') thank you.

Re: Hi I'm New and have a problem:(

@piggles01, if he isn't squinting or rubbing his eye and the eye doesn't look red or inflamed I'm sure he will be fine. Such a small amount is unlikely to cause any problems.

It's a good idea just to give your vet a call tomorrow. I'm sure they will tell you it's nothing to worry about.

A few years ago one of my pig got a hay poke in her eye and I had to give her eye drops. It took the strength of both my husband and I just to hold her still to give her the drops.

I know how they can fuss and quickly move their little heads.
