Hi there!

My new little gal, Lola, should have been named "Lightning McQueen." She is a speed demon, and when she is one the ground she has one mission-to run! I can put out hideys, food, etc., but she is running running gone. My other pig, Maddie, is so chill. She looks around, takes it in and doesn't try to get away. I need a playpen for them to be protected in and for Lola to not escape or get lost behind furniture, etc.

I went on amazon to look and am a bit overwhelmed. I'd ideally like a good size playpen for exercise time of running and getting out some energy. Any suggestions?

I also might have to wait to have more floor time with Lola b/c she is so afraid of me that she runs like a speed demon if I try to get her to the point of me scaring her, which I hate. She is eating veggies from my hand, though. Victory!

I use the wire grids and create the size playpen I desire. I wanted to have the opportunity to sit in the pen with her and play with her. But the pens they sell for guinea pigs seemed so small. Since I'm building a C&C cage, I purchased extra wire grids and connectors and I've created a massive play area for hunter.

I hope this helps!

Thank you! I have the Midwest 2x4 cage currently so I'm still learning about the C&C style. So basically those can stand fine on ground freestanding? This sounds great!

Their great! And affordable. I can easily climb over them with hunter in her carry case. The connectors are the feet. It's easy to disassemble and make it any size you want. I use the connectors at the top to make sure the grids remain in place. I was thinking of using a dog pen originally, but the gaps are wide enough for Hunter to slip through.

Yes, definitely use the grids - you will be able to adjust the size whenever you want. The playpens sold online and in stores are overpriced and way too small for a guinea pig to run laps and act crazy. Here are some links for the grids:

*Make sure the grids you are buying have squares that are 9 across and 9 down. Anything less than that is dangerous for guinea pigs as they can get their heads stuck in the large gaps*

Thank you! That's what I was noticing--pricey and small for a playpen. This forum to the rescue...thank you, guys!
