Is Petey an Abyssinian? Merino? Texel??!!

Hi everyone! I'm a new guinea pig owner and I adopted 2 guinea pigs 2 weeks ago. They are both about 6 weeks old - tiny babies. Their names are S'mores and Petey. We can tell S'mores is an American guinea pig. These pics are of Petey. What do you guys think? I've always thought he looks like a little lamb. Vet said he was an Abyssinian, but I don't really think he looks like the pics I've seen. His coat feels fuzzy, almost like cotton and does curl up when wet especially.

To me he seems like a texel/teddy. Kind of hard to say though considering that he's a baby and his hair might or might not grow out. It'll probably be easier to tell once he's an adult. He is one cute piggie

Sometimes it's difficult to tell with the itty bitties since their fur might not be the longest it will get. I would say teddy but his fur looks too soft. Teddies usually have a rough, coarse type fur. Perhaps a Rex then? Could be aby. Hard to see if there are rosettes yet but they could develop as fur grows.

He could be a Teddy, Rex, or Texel, or a Texel mix in my opinion. If his hair grows out long when he gets older he's a Texel. Other than that, I can tell you Teddies have straight whiskers and Rexes have curly, so that can help narrow it down. I don't know what texels' whiskers are usually like.

Teddies have the coarse kinky rough hair and kinked whiskers as well.

The difference between a rex and a teddy doesn't really matter unless you are breeding.

Generally speaking if you are in the US teddies are much more common, in Australia Rexes are much more common, and in the UK I believe there is a good chance of either.

One of my girls I suspect is a rex and abby mix, she has the fur of a rex but it is slightly softer than your typical rex and she has several rosettes on her body but they are mostly hidden by her fuzzy fur.

I hadn't paid much attention to his whiskers, in fact, I wasn't sure he had any at all since they're so faint. His are what I would describe as wavy. They're not very long yet. It'll be interesting to see how he looks as he grows up. I think he's a texel.
