    Cage building day!

The 2x6 grid cage with 2x2 hayloft cage that I ordered arrived today and the extra grids and connectors also arrived today to build the stand and will be putting it together today. I am so excited to start building.

The uhaul pads are in the wash and fleece will be washed next, so that once the cage is completed I should be able to start sewing the pads for the cage. I will post a picture of the finished cage as soon as I am finished building it and then on other when the pads and accessories or finished sewn together and placed in the cage. I will be very busy today.

This cage is for two female guinea pigs.

Here it is with the Coro trays in. And ramp in place, I am going to put a big bunk bed in under the loft. Now I need to measure and make fleece liners and other accessories so that piggies can move in to it tomorrow.

Thank you and I hope they will be happy. The kids are now 19 and 17 years old those are old pictures from when they were little.

    Re: Cage building day!

I sewed the first liner measured it twice with addin 5 inches to length and 5 inches to width and width wise if it's a little big but length wise ended up being to small but once washed a few times it should fit a 2x 5 cage just fine. I have to pick up more material tonight to make a new liner. I will make it differently this time so that it will hopefully come out to fit the cage like it should. I just can't figure how it ended up being so short.

Measure out 84 in. by 28 in. Leave an extra 2-3 inches on all 4 sides

    Re: Cage building day!

I had measured and cut my material to 32 inches x 89 inches, finished liner now measured at 31 inches x 80 inches and I didn't cut any of the material while sewing, so I just find it strange that it ended up that small from my original measurements.

    Re: Cage building day!

Cage is finished for now, I still need to make a ramp for them to access the bunk bed and I still need to make more accessories for them. I am going to start working on the tunnel, a hammock, 2 cozy cups and 2 cozy sacks and a fleece forest for under the bunk bed.

Did you wash the fabric prior to sewing it? They usually recommend to wash it, or add 1 or 2 extra inches because some materials tend to shrink during the first wash.

Btw, the cage looks amazing! So jealous!!!

    Re: Cage building day!

I washed all the fabric before sewing and added more inches then I probably should have in some areas which is why some pads are too big but useable. The first 2x6 liner ended up too small, used the same measurements for the second 2x6 liner and it fits just fine.

This is the second set of bedding. Each set consists of Liners (2x6 cage, 1x2 bunk area, 2x2 loft), 2 cozy sacks, 2 cuddle cups, 1 Velcro tunnel, 1 curtain, and 1 hammock. I still have two more sets to make. My plan is to have 4 sets.
