My guinea pig ate some pieces of shower curtain, please help!

    Please help me!

My 6 month old male nipped on the shower curtain bedding! He has alot of space and we just added some more, this time we decided to add shower curtains as bedding and he decided to eat a bit of the bedding, do i have to take him to a vet? Do i use something? Im worried for him. Just when I looked away to help my sister with some before-school practice work he found the right time to eat.. I feel bad not sticking to aspen, please help..

A shower curtain as bedding? Or as a liner for the cage?

Shower curtains are NOT suitable bedding, and even when used as liners, should be kept away from the pigs by covering the liner with something like aspen/pellets/fleece/etc.

How much did he eat? If not much, he'll probably be ok. But if he ate a lot, he may get an intestinal blockage.

he did not eat a lot. I read somewhere else on the internet that shower curtains were ok for bedding, ill put in some aspen immediately, thanks so much.

Anything I can do to help the curtain bits end up as waste?

I have no idea who would say that shower curtains were ok for bedding. Not anybody who knows anything about guinea pigs, that's for sure. They can be used as waterproof liners in cages, but only with an absorbent material on top, and only with the line protected from the pigs, who will chew it and eat it.

ok. So do I just wait for him to poo it out? Can I feed him lettuce with mineral oil to help him digest?

NO! Don't feet him mineral oil. Just keep feeding him normally.

What people do is use the shower curtain as a base like the coroplast and use that as the waterproof lining but as you see they can eat some. Mine were just in one using a tarp as the base and chewed some up. they are fine. i wouldn't worry too much.

Somebody probably just typoed or spaced out and said bedding instead of liner, and it caused inaccurate information. But yeah, he should poop it out naturally soon. Keep an eye out for it so you can take the bits out of the cage.
(My pig Odeta once ate some plastic wrapper and I freaked out on this forum too, but she passed it fine, though I was finding red plastic in the bedding for awhile.)

I was dismayed once when the AC had blown a plastic grocery bag left around by my roommate and it rested near the pen /: My rollie pollie pig ate about a dime's worth and I freaked out. He passed it okay and had no problems.
