The title says my question. More details: I think what I have is contagious. It's either a cold or strep.

I usually like to spend one on one time with my guinea pig but I'm assuming for the time being that's a no-no.

Any advice on handling her food and water? Wash hands before and after? Maybe use plastic gloves ? Perhaps keep my distance (not practical since im her source of food and care). What do you think?

Guinea pigs have very similar immune systems to those of humans, so depending on what exactly you have it could ve possible for them to catch it. Avoid holding her, kissing on her, etc until you feel better. Do you live with anyon who would be willing to help you out with her a bit until you're feeling better?

Thx for the quick reply. Interesting, I was under the impression that their immune system was more delicate than ours. Unfortunately, there's no one available to take my place. And yeh good thinking, I'll hold off on cuddling till I'm better. Thx again.

You can pick up paper masks pretty cheaply at any pharmacy. If you use those, and wash your hands and arms thoroughly before handling the pigs, they should be fine.

I know it's hard, but try not to rub your arm or back of your hand around your face while handling them or their food, water, hay, etc.
