    Looking for better quality pellets

Was looking at the ingredients in my current pellets and it just says 'grass' so not really sure if they are as good as I thought, excel is one of the best well known brands here in the uk. Here are the ingredients...

I liked the look of these ones

And for easy comparison here is the ingredients of the oxbow pellets I've seen people recommend on this site, bearing in mind they are double the price i usually pay

Let me know what you think

Re: Looking for better quality pellets

I see you have a couple different brands shown up there; are you asking if any of those are ok or have you been using all of them ?

The only brand I (and basically this whole website) would recommend out of those 3 is the Oxbow. I wouldn't use the other ones. The middle one is very full of herbs, I'm not sure if all of those are even ok for guinea pigs to eat. I noticed yucca on the list, I think heard somewhere guinea pigs can't eat it, but I'm not 100% sure

I've been using the first one and considering the other two
Thought the herbs looked good, but I don't know a lot about it so just asking!
Thanks for a quick reply, new it was too good to be true that the cheaper ones were better

Either of the last two look much better than the first. Oxbow makes good stuff, and the Rosewood is mostly grasses, which is good. Burgess has been an acceptable brand in the UK simply because there hasn't been much that's better, but of the first several ingredients, grass is the only one that's recommended for guinea pigs.

It's not good for an adult pig -- way too high in calcium. And not great for a younger pig, since it's got lots of soy and wheat in it rather than hay.

Re: Looking for better quality pellets

Hi. I have the same question/problem.We get Burgess here, and I've been buying it up until now, but with exchange rate, the price hss suddenly just increased dramatically. So, I'm trying to see if any alternatives are ok.
    There is this one:

    http://www.realpet.co.za/products/ve...sli-guinea-pig

    Or this one:

    http://www.realpet.co.za/products/ve...re-rabbit-food

    Or this one:
    http://www.realpet.co.za/products/ge...omplete-muesli

Really appreciate it if you could let me know if any of these are good?

Muesli is not recommended as they will pick the bits they like and leave the bits they don't, meaning they won't be getting a balanced diet. And the other one doesn't say it contains any hay which should be the first ingredient! Where are you from and I'll see if I can find something for you.

Jr. farm pellets look good, thanks sardonic smile.

I just found this article which seems quite good in terms of evaluating pellets...

I quickly checked the sites you gave and none of that food is really good.

I did see a good brand, Living World, but not sure if you can also get their guinea pig pellets, the LivingWorld (Green) Adult CelluPlus
