    Fleece or bedding in Kkichen?

I have a 2x2 loft which I will be using as a kitchen. I was wondering if it would be better to use fleece or bedding in the kitchen. Or would you recommend that I put a tray/box under the hay bags and food bowls and put bedding in there. I've heard pigs usually like pee and poop where their food is.

I have fleece in my loft plus a litter box/kitchen with wood pellets for litter. I also put a hay bag in the kitchen and a water bottle next to it.
I'm a huge fan of litter box/kitchens. My girls do the bulk of their peeing in them. I have one upstairs and one down stairs.

So do your girls kick the pellets on the fleece? I will be using a paper bedding so I am worried about bedding sticking to the fleece if I have a litter box.

No. I have very few if any pellets that end up on the fleece. I have used paper bedding and wood pellets in my litter boxes and am really happy with the wood pellets. One reason is there is little to no smell and two they are much cheaper. You can see my cage in my profile to see how I have it set up. It's been pretty much the same from the beginning and I'm really happy with the relative ease of care and the lack of smell. I hope this helps.

I use garage floor tiles in my kitchen with Carefresh under them. Works great and easy to just sweep up the hay that gets wet. The pee goes through the holes and the poops get swept up with the hay.

What s great idea. I just ordered a couple of those mats. I'm going to give it a try in my down stairs kitchen.

I currently use bedding and they do trail it out onto the fleece some. Especially the boys. I do like that mat idea though. I may have to try that!

Are you planning on filling your loft with the bedding?

No, I just want to use wood pellets under the mats without bedding.

I have a 2x2 kitchen and use 4 squares and two sides of the trim.

Oh..and I use Carefresh under mine but only because I had stocked up before switching to pellets. Once the Carefresh is gone, I will be putting pellets under mine.

@pawner69 Do the mats make the bedding last longer? What are the benefits/pros and cons to them?

Re: Fleece or bedding in Kkichen?

So what I have noticed is the bedding seems to last longer because it doesn't get all mixed up with dirty and clean. So every 2-3 days I lift the mats, pick up what's wet (which is usually near the water bottle and around the hay bin), spread out the dry and lay the mats back down.

I just cleaned this a few days ago but here is how it looks under it right now. You can clearly see what's wet. The rest is dry and clean because the poops and hay stay on top of the mats.
