    Rumblestrutting

    Hello,

I'm a fairly new cavy owner! I have two young boars by the name of Gilbert and Gordy. Gilbert is older by 1 month and frequently rumblestruts, nose bumps, and tries to hump the younger one Gordy. I realize this is a completely normal part of dominance and neither of them have gotten into a serious fight or displayed signs of beginning one. However, Gilbert does this quite frequently since I've put them together, so, a little over a month. I've also noticed that my younger boar, Gordy, is starting to exert his dominance by humping, nose bumps, and rumblestrutting, whereas before he never did. Are they simply trying to figure out who's in charge now? If so, how long does it normally last?

    Thanks!

    Re: Rumblestrutting

My previous pair was interesting. One of them (Snowflake) started out as the dominant one, but over the course of a few months the other, younger one started becoming more dominant. Unfortunately, I had to give them both up to a couple before I could see how it played out. They both told me that the younger one definitely became the dominant one over the course of a few months.

So I think it's totally normal.
