    Dream Cages (with Pictures!)

Post the cages you are saving up for or want to have. Or if you already have a cage you're in love with feel free to post too!

I'm currently saving up for a wonderful cage for my two boars (currently just have a pet store cage so I am giving them LOTS of floor time right now).

I began looking at some pictures and I never even imagined I'd want something like this but I love it.

Also: If someone's dream cage may be problematic this would be a good thread to let them know or to tell them about potential concerns.

This set-up manages to look modern while having guinea pigs right where couch potatoes like to hang so they can be around them!

Nice ikea LACK table setup! Will the piggies chew the tables?

I've always wanted to have a set-up kind of like this, only 1 grid higher off the floor, and an L-shaped 2x6 (or 2x7) instead.

That cage looks nice, but it doesn't provide appropriate space for the guinea pigs. That cage is transformed from Ikea shelving. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99030588/ Each floor is 57" x 15", which is about 6 sq.ft. It's too narrow for guinea pigs to run laps.

If you are going to build something like that, please make sure each level is at least 8 sq.ft, and have enough ventilation. Looks like the glass on the top levels are from floor to ceiling.

    This is my dream cage.

I agree that this is really modern and nice but it probably has less ventilation than an aquarium.

The floor of the cage sticks out past the top shelf and the front walls don't go all the way up. I think the bottom sticks out at least 6 inches, so it does have pretty good ventilation, I think.

The front has an open area but it looks like at least half the top is covered. If it didn't have the enclosed top, it would probably be okay. A good portion of it is enclosed on three sides.

I think it will depend on the individual pig. I wouldn't risk it with mine. If you've seen a documentary how Ikea products are made, you'll know there are lots of glue in the LACK table. The legs are made with particleboard and fiberboard, which means they're filled with saw dust and glue.

I'd like a room with 3 walls of laminate countertops (plain black) and a tile backsplash up 1', then 8" plexiglass on the two sides, so the middle area can be my workspace. plus plenty of storage underneath the two cage sides. Click image for larger version.

I'm lucky to have my (almost) dream cage! I love that it's white and somewhat modern (maybe @Mikko you could make something similar?). I love all the storage underneath. When I originally sketched it out, I imagined plexiglass on the front instead of grids. Although now that i have a lid on the top, that wouldn't work. So I'm still looking for a solution to replace the grids that will be more see-through. I also want more/different storage cubes underneath to neaten that up a bit. But I'm so glad I made it big and I love it!

    @CavyChrissy

I love the way that looks. The storages solutions underneath just look so handy. Right now all my piggy stuff is scattered around and it looks so disorganized. Your piggies look very happy in their cage.

Yea, if I was going to do this it would have to be a custom shelf built a lot bigger.
In the past my father had a big industrial shelf (originally built to store car parts) with each of the shelves being about single (human) bed size. That would be the dream. Piggie mansion!

Would they still chew on it if it were covered with fleece?

It should be safe if it were covered with fleece.

That cage looks to have at the least 12" of open space and I would say more like 20" to 24" of open space.
