How often should guinea pigs go to the vet?

Do guinea pigs need to go to the vet for check ups? how frequently should they go?

Some people take them once a year, others only when they need it. Unlike dogs and cats and some other animals, they don't get vaccinations, so there's no need for a trip for those.

Mine have never been. The only exotic vet within 100 miles won't see rabbits and guinea pigs because he's severely allergic. If I ever notice symptoms of illness we'll have to go for quite a drive, but until then I don't think it's worth the stress.
