I might be getting a baby piggie

Hey, I might be getting a baby guinea pig soon, but I already have an adult guinea pig. Her name is Ava, she's been around hamsters before, and showed no aggressive behavior, even when it bit her right on the nose! but I don't know if it will be different for a baby pig. Is there a way to test if she'll be mean to it? If she does seem friendly will she suddenly start being mean later?
(I am very new to using this app. If I have made any mistakes in posting this, please tell me, and please don't be mean about it!)

If you do a proper introduction, they should be fine. Are you adopting from a rescue? Some rescues will do the intro for you.

I'm adopting from a store. I've been there before, and they are pretty friendly, because they let people pet them and handle them. Thanks for the link, this helped a lot

    adopting or purchasing?

I would first do the quarantine process first before doing any introduction if you are getting from a store. If it was from a rescue then I would have no problem doing 'introductions'....but I'm always cautious of piggies coming from the store.

Please don't buy guinea pigs from a store. There are many guinea pigs in shelters needing homes. You can even find babies in rescues.

Where I live there is no shelters. I would buy from a shelter. The closest to a shelter is another store that takes in unwanted pigs (where I got Ava) but the two pigs that were there just sold. There are not any shelters with pigs located anywhere near where I am. I would totally get a shelter pig if there was one though, but they have been selling really fast so there isn't any available.

Did you look at the link I posted? There's a list of rescues all over the world.

Yes, I did I worded that wrong. There are a ton of rescues near me, but none with guinea pigs. They get adopted as soon as they are in. So getting a shelter pig isn't really an option. I looked on adoption websites too, and the one pig on there was in Calgary and over 80 dollars. I live around the kootnay area. I do want to get a shelter pig, and if one does pop up, I'll see if I can get it.

Have you tried Craigslist or Petfinder?

Getting a rescue or shelter pig is always an option. You may just have to have patience. I know it's hard to when you really want a pig NOW.

80 dollars is ridiculous. Rehoming fees are good because they help scare off the wrong kind of people, but I question a person's motivation for asking that much.

Those fees are generally from people who are including all their gear and they are trying to recoup some of their costs. People pay a lot for those little bitty pet store cages.

Yes, those store cages are such a rip-off. Far too expensive for far too small of a space.
@superduperpigs - if someone is looking to rehome their pig for something high like $80 and is including all the supplies, just ask them how much without the supplies. That should bring it down a bit. Don't buy from a pet store. They get their pigs from breeding mills and keep them in terrible conditions. They backbreed the sow to exhaustion and dispose of her when she isn't producing anymore.

The good news is - you have time. You don't need to get another pig right away. Take your time and be on the lookout for guinea pigs in your area. Call local vets and animal shelters/rescues (even ones you think only take in cats/dogs) and let them know you are looking for a guinea pig if someone surrenders theirs.
