Unhappy Going to have to leave my piggies for a few days!

Ok. So I am going to my moms place for a few days because I have the dreaded dentist appointment! (Never had a cavity or anything like that tho! Don't know why I am saying this ) anyways I have to leave my piggies with my dad while I am gone.(I don't want to put them through the stress of the car rides) So I am teaching my dad to look after them. THIS WILL BE THE LONGEST 3 DAYS OF MY LIFE!!!! I'm so nervous!!

They'll be fine on car rides. If that's the only reason you're leaving them, and you want to take them, then do so. It won't hurt them a bit.

All 7 of my brothers and sisters plus my mom will be in the car. they would also be in a small cage cramming me and my brother. My mom lives almost 45 mins away. My mom also complains about (guinea pig stink) in the car.

If your mom only lives 45 minutes away, why do you have to go for 3 days? can't she just pick you up for the appointment or is this part of visitation too?

    I know the feeling.
I have had to leave my piggies in the care of others for up to 6 days.

I actually have 3 1 week long trips coming up over the next few months.

My anxiety is never completely gone.
But the more prepared I have everything, the easier it is.

I also have my sitters (always a sitter coming in either once or twice a day) take a pic of each pig at feeding time and text it to me.
I also have all the food ready and labelled for each piggy.
I tell them to listening out for any wheezing or harshness of breath. And if everyone seems excited to get their food.

But even with all the planning in creation, I am dreading the days I will have to depend on someone else to come in and take care of them.

My advise - Good prep work and excellent instructions.

    Good luck!

yeah, Im in the same boat as @lunarminx

If its only a forty five minute drive... why not just make it a one day trip.

Also, checklists prove very helpful! You could easily make one up and that way you can be sure your dad Doesn't miss anything!

3 days is probably short enough that you could bag up their veggies in advance. Last time I had to go somewhere for a weekend I left my pigs in the care of my mother. The day before I left I spent the afternoon bagging up and labelling their veg (keep in mind I have 18 guinea pigs so this was a bit of work). I labelled which cage the bag was for and what day she was to give them out.

Overall she did a good job, she has arthritis so I didn't expect the cages to get cleaned properly (which they weren't but I could tell she had tried). I came home to their kitchen area's almost lined with hay with the hay racks still almost full . Guess she took the "unlimited amounts of fresh hay" very seriously, my garden got a good mulch when I cleaned the cages out (lucky for me I buy a bail of hay for $8).

I am going to write down a checklist for him. and I will be gone for 3 days because it is part of visitation.
