Today I took Cinna to the vet for a check up she wants me to give him more vitamin c because he doesn't get pellets because pf his issues with calcium in his urine. I wasn't sure how much of the tablet to give so i brought it up and she looked and came up with 8-10 mg per day. Then I brought up the children's vitamin c tablets and she agreed that i could give him some that way. So my question is what tablets would you recommend and how much of it? I've heard like 3/4 of a tablet but not sure how much that would be. Another question that isn't related to this but she also said he needs to put on a little weight cause you can feel some bones towards his back end. Other than that he checked out healthy even checked his teeth and trimmed his nails and cleaned his ears. So if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it and thanks in advance.

You want to aim at 25-30 mg per day for a well pig, 50-100 in the short-term for a pig that is showing signs of a vitamin C deficiency.

You don't want to overdo vitamin C, because if for some reason the higher amount gets stopped, the pig can develop pseudo-scurvy.

I just wrote:

Sixty mg is twice as much as you want to feed a well pig. So cut the tablet in half.

I use the old Oxbow Daily C. I bought 10 bottles when they announced they were changing the formula.

No, but I'm doing this on the vet's advice because I have older pigs (5+), and one in particular was having trouble maintaining her weight.

They're 60 mg. You'd have to give half.

Most of the vitamin C guinea pigs need can be found in their day-to-day diet of pellets and veggies. The ideal pellet choice is a high quality timothy based plain pellet. Higher quality guinea pig pellets are manufactured with stabilized C to help it stay viable longer. Keep in mind that C will lose its’ effectiveness over time beginning with manufacturing, to when it is shipped, sold and used. Fresh daily veggies are also an essential part of a good piggy diet and are an excellent source of vitamin C and other nutrients.

This can give you great information about the supplements
