Please help!!! Guinea pig coughing and sneezing

I recently got my two cute fluffy guinea pigs. They are around 4-5 weeks old.
I noticed for about 3 days now that they have been coughing and sneezing every once in awhile.
Their eating fine, sleeping, playing, and their feces look normal. I'm worried though. Is it a cold?
I will gladly take them to the vet if needed, I don't know how to go about finding one for a guinea pig though.
Or the costs. Also, is their anything I can do at home that can help?

I love my piggies. Please help.

They need to see an exotic specialist vet. Google 'exotic specialist' and your area. They most likely have a URI which requires prescribed antibiotics. If the vet prescribes Baytril, ask for Bactrim instead as Baytril can stunt growth in young guinea pigs.

What bedding material do you have them in? Do a quick search on pine and cedar shavings and URI (upper respiratory infection).

But I'd bring them to the vet ASAP. The vet will check for that and give them a nice overall check up as well. It's hard to truly tell what the problem is over the internet.

I use to have them in wood shavings, but I put them on fleece because I saw its better for them

I don't think human products such as Vic or Sudafed are safe for guineas, but that's just an assumption. @bpatters can help more with that.

You need to get them to a vet ASAP. As prey animals, they hide their illness well, and for a long time. When you start seeing symptoms, you need to assume it's been there a while. Guineas can go downhill pretty fast.

I will get them to a vet of course. I have had them for about 5 days, and noticed three days ago. Could they have been sick when I got them?

It's probably the wood shavings that you mentioned. Not sure which type you were using before switching over to fleece, cedar is the worse. Could they have been sick when you got them? Check out how the previous owner kept them, but in this case I'm doubting if it is.

Better be safe than sorry, I hope everything works out at the vet. Maybe it's nothing, lets hope it is.

It's entirely possible, especially if you got them from a pet store or breeder. Like has been mentioned, wood shavings can irritate the respiratory system but it's unlikely unless you used pine or cedar.

Or if you call your local guinea pig rescue they can usually recommend a vet, or they might know if there's an emergency vet in your area that sees exotics.

If it's a bacterial infection, they need antibiotics. I would not offer human meds to guinea pigs. It's dangerous to treat them without knowing what the actual ailment is. URIs can quickly turn into pneumonia so I'd get them to an exotic vet asap.

Unless there are other symptoms (eye/nasal) discharge, weight loss, appetite loss, lethargy, etc I wouldnt be too quick to assume that there is something wrong. Guinea pigs can sneeze and/or cough from hay dust or bedding dust.

Re: Please help!!! Guinea pig coughing and sneezing

I took them to the vet and they kept them in quarantine to watch them. The vet said they weren't sick.
They said it must of been something in my home that was bugging them. So I went over the piggies area and pin really well to make sure there were no wood chip shavings or dust.
I also put soft paper bedding in instead of fleece because I thought maybe that was the problem. but they started to cough and sneeze again. it made me a little angry because the vet said their not sick, and told me to pick them up. (wich is almost an hour away) I'll have to call them again if they keep sneezing and coughing. Their eating, drinking, playing, and do everything fine, but I worry so much. Maybe their trying to get it our of their system?
