The minimum is 20 gallons.
But bigger is always better,that is why I recommend bin cages!

Tomorrow we are going to the local pet store to look at the aquarium tanks and to see prices. We are getting the hamster from that place. (It is a local breeder not petsmart or petco)

Did you check Craigslist? If there are pet stores, there are likely people getting bored with them and trying to rehome them.
