What's a good cheap bedding I can use for floor time? I don't have enough rags so I was thinking -how about buying towels? Would blankets work? Fleece throws wouldn't though because they're too thin right?

I place a tarp down and either newspaper or a fleece throw or two down.

I use towels or whatever's handy, but my pigs only really urinate under my bookshelf during floor time, so I don't need much.

What I love are used/old bath mat rugs (throw rugs with rubber backing). Washable (although not super frequently). Mostly waterproof, enough for floor time anyway. Easy to throw down and later shake out.

Do u put anything on top of it? I see some people put news papers on top.

Bpatters. I was wondering, does the blanket absorb the urine? I'm concerned about it seeping through the fabric.

The dollar tree sells reusable blue tarps that are a great size and you can lay that down first if you are worried about the urine going through the blanket.

I use some U-haul and put fleece over it, like how I line my cage.

I bought half a dozen small-ish, thick rugs from the thrift store (under $10 total). My guinea pigs don't like tarp and they work better than towels for floor time (in my opinion). More absorbent than plastic/tarp, less than towels.

Is this alright? The size is actually smaller than their pen. I also didn't want to give them too many hideouts because I want them moving around (also scattered carrot pieces for that reason.) I put down cardboard then covered it with fleece. I put a step stool as a hidey because they looked scared . I wanted something that shelters but isn't completely closed off. I also made some areas of the floor time space darker than others to give them somewhere to relax if it's too scary out in the open. What do u think?

I want to make floor time a consistent thing but the amount of work and resources involved are precluding instintuting floor time.
What do you guys do that makes your floor time easier to set up and clean up?
