Rabbits Looking to adopt a bunny

We are looking to adopt a bunny. I have 3 kids 7month old 2.5 year old and 10 year old. They do extremely well with our guinea pigs. The post says the bunny doesn't like being held by kids. Is this something they can learn out of or will she always be afraid of someone under the age of 10.

It all depends on the rabbits temperament. I would find a rescue and let your kids interact with some. And which ever does well with younger kids then that rabbit would be the one you should adopt. Also ask rescues about their rabbits temperment and ask if they would be a match.

A lot of rabbits don't like to be held at all, or even picked up. Rabbits aren't recommended for people who need a 'cuddly' pet, because a lot of the time they'll only tolerate stationary petting. If your younger children tried to pick the bun up they could get injured if it was one who didn't like too much contact.

I would not recommend a rabbit if you want something to pick up and hold. This is what my rabbit did to me when I tried to pick her up to move her.

I have a 2 month old, 4.5 year old and 6 year old. They don't pick up our bunny. First the rabbit doesn't want to be picked up so she just hops away when they try and second we made it a rule. I have been teaching Pepper the command "go home" so we don't have to catch her when she needs to go home. So far so good.

Pepper isn't afraid of the kids at all. She loves it when they scratch her head and they like to feed her treats and watch her binky and do zoomies.

How are you training pepper. I wasn't looking for a cuddly pet but something they can feed, pet, and watch on the floor.

my bun bun isn't a fan of being picked up either. sometimes he lets me, other times not at all but either way never for more than a minute or two.

I'd like to know how you trained Pepper too, I'd like to try that with my Darwin. I acutally have klickers too for training but haven't been using them or done research on klicker training.

Teaching "Go home" is easy. Basically you just herd your rabbit to her cage while saying "go home". Once she is in her cage, shut the door and give her a favorite treat immediately.

I'm teaching her her name too. I call her name, when she comes I give her a treat.

Mine always have learned quickly. Pepper already has the idea but still needs some practice.
