Weight Maybe I am over reacting?

A couple days ago I saw someones thread asking if their piggies were overweight. I was sure mine weren't, but now I'm not too sure! lol. Our boys are both around 3-4 months old, and our orange boy is quite chunky!! Any tips for dieting piggies if needed? Does it look like Sammie needs to shed some weight? lol! I know he looks quite larger than he did just two weeks ago. They get about 1/2 a cup of pellets between them daily, but don't eat them all, and always 24/7 hay, then they get mixed peppers, yellow and green, sometimes orange and red, and their romaine lettuce, and carrots, sometimes cucumber and celery too. I try to only measure out 1 cup of veggies each for both of them a day.

They don't look heavy at all to me. Do you have a scale to weigh them? We weigh every Sunday. When mine were in the fast growing stage (under 6 months) they sometimes gained 70g a week!!

It is nearly impossible for a guinea pig to be obese. Young guinea pigs should get an unlimited amount of alfalfa pellets until they are about 6 months.

About the romaine lettuce, it is pretty high in calcium and can lead to bladder sludge or stones if fed to often. If your pigs do fine with it and have no white spots where they pee it should be OK. But I personally always use red or green leaf lettuce which my pigs highly prefer.

So all in all no he is not overweight! And I would never diet a pig unless instructed to by a vet!

Thank you for the tip. I just find he's so chunky! lol. They're the same age. I will be purchasing a scale this week to weigh them and will make an update

No! No white pee! I've seen that and try not to feed a ton of it. They usually get one leaf broken in half between them a day.

There's no need to worry about weight or calcium in pigs that are under six months old. They're very cute, by the way.

Guinea pigs are not the same size and shape any more than people are the same size and shape.

And it's nearly impossible for a guinea pig to be overweight. The ONLY truly overweight guinea pigs I've ever know of have either been fed unlimited pellets as adults, and/or had mobility problems and couldn't move much but were still overfed.

If your pigs weigh over 4lbs, then you need to worry about their weight.
