Could use some advice. I have been having some hardcore health problems for the past six months or so. I have two guinea pigs that live in my room. I use orchard hay, because I have allergies and thought timothy would be a bad choice for me. I am not sure that the pigs are what are causing my health problems or not, but im sure them being in my room isnt helping matters. It started around six months after I had my first one. No problem until way later, and happened before I got my second one. Didnt really get bad until last week. I use fleece bedding and change it once a week, and daily or bi-daily piggy poopy scoops. Anyways, It happens at work, my house, and my boyfriends house, but I assumed the guinea pigs were not helping the matter. I have no way to move them out of my room due to my roommates, so I was wondering if someone could suggest a decent air purifier to help things out in my room. I have about 75 dollars in gift cards to Radio Shack and they have quite a large selection on their website. I unfortunately know nothing about air filters, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to keep it close to the 75 dollar range so that I only pay shipping, but if its worth it to get something a little more expensive I dont necessarily mind it. Thanks in advance guys! Also, dont forget it has to be from Radio Shack cause thats where my gift cards are to.

A good air purifier will help. It takes allergens like dust and dander out of the air.

We use Honeywell air purifiers and they work great you would need a large one not the compact.

What are your symptoms? Is it allergies or asthma or something else? If it's hardcore health issues, you'd be better off seeing a professional to determine what the problem really is. Asthma is treatable with meds and/or inhalers but can be life threatening if you have an asthma attack. Don't risk your health by just treating the symptoms without finding out the cause.

While it's rare to be allergic to guinea pigs, it is possible. I am allergic to guinea pigs. I have asthma, and had an allergy test done.

I agree about getting professional help.

I'm having many symptoms ranging from allergy type to sinus to bronchitis and even some heart problems. I know it is not from the guinea pigs, but I am assuming breathing in any pee or hay allergens or dust in my room is not conducive to healing. I decided to just get an air purifier for my bedroom to make things a little easier on myself in the long run. If it doesn't help that much, there really isn't any harm in having an air purifier anyways, especially if I have gift cards sitting around being unused for anything else from that store. I believe I am just going to discharge myself early from here, because I feel that I am not getting the treatment I need and or deserve honestly. All they are doing now is giving me an albuterol nebulizer treatment, which they can prescribe me a machine at home and it would be far cheaper than another night in the hospital. Any advice on specific brands or etc on air purifiers is much appreciated everyone! Thanks bunches!

Air purifiers are safe. I find that Flovent works better for me than Albuterol. Make sure you rinse your mouth after inhaling it because it can cause fungal infections in your mouth. You should see if you can be tested to see what you're allergic to. My biggest trigger is mold.

Yeah, I originally thought it was something at work, cause I got worse at work, then I started getting bad at home and my boyfriends house as well. I am going to schedule an appointment with an allergy specialist when I get out of the hospital. Im feeling better just have a really deep cough now.
