Hello,

I am located in Oakland in the Bay Area, California. I already have 3 pigs in a 6x2 and planned on fostering more. However, those plans have changed and now I have constructed the base seen below but never used it. If anyone is local I would like to give it away to someone looking to upgrade or adopt some guinea pigs. This is suitable for two pigs.

Dimensions are 28" x 42" and the sides are 4" tall.

Willing to send? And would this be suitable for 2 boars?

edit: Cause some people say boars need more room?!

No a 2 by 3 isn't even suitable for two sows. A 2 by 3 is minimum for one guinea pig. The minimum for two guinea pigs is 2 by 4, for boars I would say a 2 by 5 is the true minimum.

on the front page of this site I think it says the minimum for 2 pigs is a 2x3 but more is preferred(meaning like a 2x4 or bigger

Yeah you are correct though that chart is also for sows not boars. Boars need more room so they don't fight.

@Talking Cavy since you can do a 2 by 3.5 is there any way you can do a 3 by 3? That would at least give the boars room width wise so they aren't in each others faces all the time. Boars usually do need more room then sows, also having two of everything helps. For example two hidey houses, two water bottles, and so forth. Also furniture can be moved around. We live in an apartment and I had to move a few things to the other wall to fit in a 2 by 5 for our boars. I also gave them a two cube high cage stand though, so we now have storage on that wall for some of the things we had to move.

I had 2 sows that needed a 2x6 to get along together. It's very much a "know thy pig" when it comes to cage sizing.
FYI: the cage sizing on the main site is made like so because some people simply don't have the space for large cages. We don't all have large unaccompanied spaces in our homes.

Talking Cavy I will advise you that you CAN attempt a 2x3 for 2 boars. If they're bonded, they may not mind the smaller space. However, if they argue or bicker too much, you must consider another way to give them a larger cage or possibly find a way to exchange a dominate boar for a submissive boar. Some rescues or shelters will be willing to work something out.

Aw man. Too bad I live over 2000 miles away. I am contemplating ordering one online because I hate my males cage. The coro is too tight and I used the cage he came with and it kills my back to clean it because I have to stuff the fleece on the sides since I can't lift the cage over the coro.

MrWhistles That's a good point, they each have their own personality. Our boars were already bonded but still needed a 2 by 5 to keep bickering down, silly guinea pigs. I didn't realize that is why there is a 2 by 3 on the chart. I understand not everyone has large spaces, I'm actually one of those people lol hence one of the reasons why we did a cage stand for the built in storage.

That's very small. 2.8x1.4 ft is only 3.92 sq.ft.
A 2x4 cage is 27"x56", 10.5 sq.ft.

If you could put a piece of plywood on the dresser, and secure it to the dresser, you can put the cage on the top.

Even if there isn't a plug behind the small dresser. You can purchase a cheap extension cord and plug in your tank that way.
