Hi everyone, I am 34 years old and my 4 year old just got her first piggies! We rescued them from craigslist, one was supposed to be picked up by someone with a snake but the girl let us have her instead, whew! They are both babies, 2 months and 4 months, are incredibly bonded, and my daughter and I adore them. We just built them a C&C cage. I spent a few weeks with a tape measure in my hand 24/7 trying to find space and finally decided to sell some of her furniture so we could get them out of a pet store cage (that was 47x23!) I tried to maximize floor space by getting rid of the pigloo and putting their "kitchen" upstairs, and I also built them an outdoor playpen that they spend at least an hour a day in (supervised of course) and they get lots of floor time, though they still hide most of the time during it.

They still won't eat many veggies, only corn husks and carrots, so I give them half an Oxbow vitamin C pellet daily. Here are some pics of them with my son, daughter, and their new home. I hope to learn a lot here!

Can someone tell me how to set up an avatar? I have a profile picture but it's not showing up as my avatar. Thank you!

Thank you! They are girls, their names are Rosie (dark brown with stripe) and Buttercup, named by my daughter who loves flowers (and butterflies as you can see!)

That might have been a stupid question. I should have guessed from the pink fleece yoju have girls. :)

I had a rat named Buttercup. Actually I had Blossom and Bubbles too. They were the Powerpuff Rats.

Welcome to the forum! You've got very cute piggies.

Just one word of caution... Pigs can startle easily, and can jump out of a kid's arms before anyone can stop it. A safer way for kids to hold pigs is with the pig's back against the kid's stomach, one hand under the pig's butt, and the other across the pig's chest, holding it against the kid. It gives the kid a better grip on the pig, and the pig doesn't have any traction with its legs to leap anywhere. Pigs' backs are pretty fragile, and a fall, even from a child's height, can damage their spines.

bpatters has been a great help for me. That is great advice. My daughter is almost 8 and is great with our piggies but I still get nervous when she handles them. She does great but they're so fragile! With an attitude of welcoming the knowledge of those on the forum who have done this longer than I, it's provided me a wonderful place to turn to for questions concerns or just to see some super cute pics!
