You'll have to poke a hole in the bag and see how strongly they smell of pine. I started out using Tractor Supply pellets, which were fine, and then I got some that were unsuitable for guinea pigs.

Just had a thread on wood stove pellets. Check it out. As for brands, I religiously use and swear by americas best douglas fir and golden fire douglas fir. I didn't stock up to get me through the summer but found a great all wood pellets product though more expensive. I didn't want to chance my pig being the one with bad side effects. The brands I listed will be back in the fall.

Yes. Going to stock up to get me through next summer when it's back in stock.

Is there a wood pellet similar to golden fire pellets that I can use? Or what have you been using in replace of those

I couldn't find any all natural hardwood pellets anywhere. At amazon I got Flame Genie FG-P20 Premium Wood Pellets for Fire Pits, 20 Pound Pack. It's pricey ($15 for 20 lbs shipping included) but I don't intend on running out of golden fire ever again, or americas best.

They don't turn to dust dunes like douglas fir. Rather its more like soaking it up. My girl goes in the same spot all the time. I just scoop the spot out and replace it. Easy. I bought 1 bag to see. It's a good second choice for me. I just ordered 4 more bags. Paper bedding or kaytee wood pellets bedding are expensive for what you get. I can easily handle $6 for a 40 lb bag.
