I don't think she would be pregnant. She's never been with any other guinea pig than Lulu.

She's on her side now after we put her back from the cage after we looked at her. She looks bad.

If she looks bigger but can't be pregnant, it could very well be stasis, or bloat. I understand she had bloat already very recently. Is she peeing? Is she pooping at all? If it is stasis, it is life threatening and she needs a vet ASAP.

There are some measures you can take to help if that's what it is.

I'm so, so sorry. I know you did everything you could. I'm sure Sofie knows too.

Thank you. I don't know what to do with Lulu though. We're thinking of getting another one soon, but I think we should adopt. We got Lulu and Sofie from Petco. Do you think we should adopt?

Also, we're gonna take her to the vet to see what was up with her. Maybe tomorrow, because our local vet is closed today.

If you're going to take her to the vet, put her in the refrigerator, not the freezer. Freezing will destroy so much of the tissue the vet may not be able to tell what was wrong with her.

And yes, please adopt. If you'll post your address (city/state, not your street address), we'll see if we can help you find a rescue close to you.

I'm sorry you lost her.

I can look up adoption centers near me. Are they like small animal adoption centers?

The best thing to do, if you're in the U.S., is to go to https://www.petfinder.com. Put in your city and state, and click "Find Other Pets." Choose "Small and Furry," and at the top of the next page, choose "Guinea Pig" as the species.

If there are some around you that are a little too far to drive, contact them anyway. Most rescues are just one or more foster homes, and there may be homes nearer to you than the address would indicate. Also, if there's a rescue close to you but doesn't have what you want, email and ask if they've got anything that's not showing on Petfinder. They're all run by volunteers, and Petfinder isn't always up to date.

Should I get a like 1 year old female? Lulu is about 3 or 4 years old. Will an adopted and pet store piggie get along harsh? I’m ready to get another one soon. When do you guys think I should get it? Thanks.

Where the pigs come from have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not they get along.

I answered you once about where to get your pig. We NEVER recommend purchasing a pig from a pet store. Those pigs are bred and raised in horrible conditions. They're often sold sick, mis-sexed, with parasites, and the baby sows are pregnant. The breeding sows are kept continually pregnant, and the pups are often inbred. If you buy one from a store, you're just participating in that chain of abuse. If you get one from a rescue, you get a pig that needs a home, and you free up a space for another pig to be saved.

What age do you think would be good though?

It doesn't matter. Whether or not pigs get along is totally down to the personality of the pigs, not the age (with the exception of boars in puberty, but that's not what you're dealing with here).

Lulu won't mourn Sofie the same way as you or I would mourn losing one of our pigs. All Lulu knows is that her buddy is gone, and she's lonely.

If you have it in your heart to welcome another pig in your home, I say the sooner the better for Lulu's sake. Don't forget the quarantine period for a new pig, unless you either really, really trust where the pig is coming from (most rescues have already done a quarantine) or have a vet fund big enough to treat two pigs if they happen to be ill.

Otherwise barring all of that, I would introduce them ASAP. A rescue may even let you do a meet and greet with Lulu, to let her pick her own new friend.

Thanks. Sofie actually had ovarian cysts, which she died from. Not a UTI.
