Really, really great update on your two newest ladies. I have to agree with Kelsie, your photography skills leave nothing to be desired. It sure doesn't hurt that they're both beautiful girls.

I didn't really doubt that they would do anything BUT thrive in your care.

Thank you so much guys!

I've never done photography professionally, it's just something I enjoy. I'm not even using a particularly fancy camera, just a Canon entry level DSLR. I've invested in a couple nice lenses to allow me to do different techniques, like background blur or bokeh. All self taught though!

One of my pictures actually recently won a calendar contest! Rosie, my little crested girl, was selected to be in Global Pet Foods 2019 calendar. So that's pretty exciting! I'll add in her winning photo at then.

The girls and I have been having a lot of fun the past few months. We do a lot of volunteer and educational work. We've recently been at the Canadian pet expo, Toronto Pignic and some SPCA events. I have thought of making some calendars to have for sale during events, but it's pricey to get them made and I have no idea if people would actually buy them.

I remember the Canadian Pet expo! :D

And I completely forgot about the Toronto Pignic. I am ashamed.

Is it true that Piggles is not rescuing any more?

That picture SHOULD be in a calendar, it's superb! What a great shot!

Haha it's ok, the Pignic was fun but it was SO HOT! They are going to try and have it a later weekend in September for next year.

It's true that Piggles has stopped taking in pigs. They go by Piggles CARES (Cavy Advice, Rehoming and Education Service). They are partnering with a different rescue though. All Creatures Rescue now handles all the guinea pigs and is just led by a different person. They are a great rescue and share all the values that Piggles does, so it's nice to know that there is still a solid rescue running. They just do other critters in addition to guinea pigs!

I'm not exactly sure why they went in that direction. But I'm pretty sure they were having really slow adoptions and a ton of people were returning previously pigs in all different states. I imagine it can become quite draining and frustrating after a while.

Sad to see a pig rescue go by the wayside. I'm glad they're affiliated with someone still that will care for the pigs. But it's heartbreaking that they now have one less place to go.

All I can think of is the pigs.

So little update for the ladies! Had to share their Halloween photos from yesterday!

Winnie and Greta are happy, chunky little things now! They were pretty underweight when I got them, but have filled out nicely just with a proper diet. To put it in perspective, at their lowest points Winnie was 655g and Greta was 730g. Now, after 5 months, they are both in the 940g range. They are smaller than all my other adult pigs, but I think they may be a bit stunted due to having such poor nutrition while growing up.

Thankfully both are happy and eating well and that is what is important now! They are so sweet and love head scratches, I couldn't be happier with them!

Check out the little witches below!

BEAUTIFUL little girls, and amazing pictures as always sallyvh. Glad to hear their story is only getting better.

I swear, we need to make a piggie calendar out of these pictures.

Thank you for the update on your beautiful rescue girls. I went back and read it from the initial post and it made me so happy to read how much the girls have flourished under your care.

Those photos are gorgeous and you have a real knack with the camera!

Thanks guys! It's been a lot of fun seeing these ladies flourish. They are much more confident now and I can tell that they are finally comfortable in their environment.

@sallyvh, by the way, has Winnie and Greta transitioned to drinking out of water bottles now instead of the crock?

@SSLee Yes, they both drink out of only water bottles now!

They are super picky and only like the spouts on the living world glass bottles, so that is what they get. The rest of my girls just have the plastic lixit bottles.

Gorgeous! How do you get them to sit still? When I try and get pigtures mine go in separate directions unless I give them a piece of apple (or other fruit/veggie).

Thanks guys! Haha I'm still not booking sittings, I swear one day I have to do a bit of pet photography!

As far as getting them to sit still, it's just luck. Most of them will just sit there and look at me. I learned to that giving them treats during photoshoots makes them too excited and they start rummaging around looking for snacks. But if I save all the treats for after their photos they are much more still during the process. Also doing individual photos usually helps!

It's been a while since I've uploaded some photos of the ladies! Since Easter just passed, I have a few photos of the pigs so I thought I would share :)

Winnie and Greta continue to do so well. They have blossomed into wonderful ladies and I really couldn't be happier with how they have done!
