You are inspiring me to hang the lights and next cage clean out I'm going to put in my holiday liners. I am still trying to figure out the best way to permanently secure the lights to the outside of the cage. My plan is to run a set on the top and bottom of the cage. My lights are tube lights. Where would I start? Start at the plug and work my way around the cage? Or start in the front or in the back? I have no idea where to start. I have two sets of lights so about 36 feet I think.

@Gandalf

I love the little middle part. If you don't mind, can you tell me a bit more about it? I'm rather new to the C&C so I'm still trying to figure stuff out. I really think my boys could benefit from a little extra space like that but I think my only concern, I have a lidded cage cuz I have 2 dogs at my house. My boys are in my room always with teh door shut, but I still have teh lid.

Would something like this be possible on a lidded cage??

Thanks! And I really love lights! :)

This thread hasn't been posted in for a few days so I hope you don't mind me posting.

I was wondering if the lights get warm? Do you leave them on all day or just for a little bit?

The lights around my cage do not get warm. We turn them on in the evening until it's time to go to bed (about 5 hrs). I don't leave them on all day (and if I left the house, I would turn them off). They are out of reach from the piggies too, so it's pretty safe for them.

My lights are also on for just several hours in the evening. But they are LED lights, so they stay cool.

I'm sorry I just saw this. Thanks for the compliments!

I believe you could make a cage similar to mine but with a lid too. I've made numerous grid cages for rabbits (which all have enclosed lids) but this is my first piggie cage.

To make my loft level, I just used grids zip-tied to the back wall (between the 4th & 5th row of openings). PVC pipe (spray-painted black) is used to hold up the front edge of the loft. I think those are visible in the photo. I put a coroplast base with 3" sides for that loft area. The 'fence' pieces I found at a dollar store (but home depot also carries similar ones).

We also have a dog (labradoodle) which is why I put the cage up on a table. For him, that is a good enough deterrent, but it may not be good enough for some dogs.

I know I posted a photo earlier, but I got some Christmas fleece to add to the cage...

I think for next year, I'll make some coordinating christmas potty pads.

Here's my final version of my christmas cage.
Tube lights, blue snowflakes on the back wall and on the plexiglass, blue igloo hidey, and winter raccoon fleece:

@Gandalf,
It's all good!

We have an aussie shep and a min pin. The shepard has been around pigs briefly before but the Min. Pin. never, but neither one I trust around the piggos regardless.

I like this idea, but now I wonder how would the lid fit on it if I wanted to do something like this?

Thank you for getting back to me!

Traysea's cage just above has a loft too... just in a different location than mine but at the same height. Hers has a lid that looks like it is made from closet shelving.
