Hey Everyone,
I recently began to quarantine my new pig, but I have some questions about this process. For starters I know that you must quarantine for at least 3 weeks, separate from your pig and such. But I am wondering if the separation must be in completely different rooms or can they be in the same room but away from each other in separate cages? I have read a few articles that say different rooms and a few articles that say just separate cages, no matter the room. What is your take on quarantine?

By the way meet the new addition to our family, Coco.

Congratulations on Coco! Is she an Abby? She looks all fuzzy and snuggly!

Hey CavyChrissy, he is a Rex and so adorable. :) This cutie was being re homed on CL so of course i had to make to drive to pick him up! His fur is rough and wired (which was the first time I had encountered a piggie with this type of fur). Turns out his fur care instructions are much easier than Coppers.

I am quarantining them in separate rooms for about 3 weeks then introducing them both in the 2x5 c&c. I hope all goes well! I will keep you updated. :)

Update: I think Coco is actually a Teddy. Rex and Teddy guinea pigs are very similar but Teddy's have long and straight whiskers vs. Rex guinea pigs that have crinkled whiskers. The breeds are so similar though lol, my mistake.

My teddy girls have crinkled whiskers, the difference is that Rex's fur grows up to an inch long whereas teddy fur stays short

edit: I was wrong. "The Rex is one of the largest breeds of guinea pig and is noted for its cuddly and affable nature. The fur is coarse and wire-like and the whiskers are crinkly. The Rex breed is often confused with the Teddy breed as they look very similar with their plush fur type. There are methods of telling them apart however; the Rex will have crinkly whiskers while the Teddy has whiskers that are longer and straighter, and the fur on a Rex is far more coarse to the touch than that of the Teddy."
pin that case my two teddy girls are rexes?

He looks like a rough haired American to me. I've had a few guinea pigs that have the teddy fur with the longer snouts that resembled him. Teddies and rexes have round, flatter faces.
These are teddy-Americans or rough haired Americans. The first photo looks like she has a rounded face but she does has a long snout:

@pinky Long Haired American makes so much sense, Coco seems to have the round face and long snout (almost facing upwards which threw me off). Doing more research on LH Americans now! Thank you so much!:)

@Saylavi Thank you! I also found the same information (in quotations) which is the bulk of the information I could find anywhere online when telling Teddy and Rexes apart. I wish there was more to go off of, your girls may be Rexes or maybe a Long Haired American like @pinky said? I will do more research on LH Americans and share. Thank you again for your post!
