I am 21 (just turned it on August 1st!) and I am a stay-at-home wife. I am married to a wonderful man (30) and we have a whole apartment full of animals! I got my first pig for my 15th birthday. :)

Just curious..Im an older stay at home mom, lol...but I always assume most here are teens, or college, or in 20's...

Why would you assume that? :p Not that you're wrong in my case - I'm 22 and have had pigs since I was 14.

I'm 61 (yikes!). I first got guinea pigs when I was 7 years old, then had them again when my 3 boys were young. And then started my own herd of 8 Peruvians about 10 years ago, before I transitioned to rescuing piggies. I've rescued over 1,110 piggies now and my back is finally starting to complain about all the barrels of pine shavings that I've been hauling out of the house.

Ha ha...B patters....Well, I guess I only asked the question cause alot of people think guinea pigs, hamsters, etc are for kids..I was curious to see if there were other women or men that enjoyed them not only for there kids, etc....To me, Twix was like having a little caged puppy...LOL

When I first started rescuing piggies, I fully expected almost all of the adopters to be family with small children. I was very surprised though to find out that probably at least half of the adopters are single adults and couples, getting the piggies as pets for themselves.

@jayval, I agree that small pets are usually seen as small people (children)'s pets, and you associate bigger pets like dogs, cats etc with adults. I think it also has to do with the stereotype that small pets require less care (ha!) so people think only children would take them on.

I'm 36, wife is 35. We got our pigs a year ago. They are my first pet since I was a teen with hampsters. I have larger pet allergies so they are the obvious choice. Now we're totally in love with them. We will probably continue to rescue and care for new piggies even if our home is blessed with the less furry variety of babies. I just wish my wife would let me turn an entire room into a piggy wonderland.

I'm 58, got my first guinea pigs when I was in grade school and then had a lot of different pets through my teens. Once my husband and I had kids, we got guinea pigs again. My "kids" are 23 and 27 years old. My son still really likes the guinea pigs.

I am pretty new to guinea pigs. My first one was when I was 24 or 25 and I am 26 now. Currently I live alone with my amazing furry family.
