Just wondering my piggies sometimes chew their hidey hos. Is it ok if I give them Apple sticks from a pet store. So hopefully then chew instead?

Yes its fine to give them apple sticks its just a wooden chew but you need to freeze them first to make sure your piggies don't get any bugs from the chews. Have you tried flavored chews it works great for the picky chewer.

Yes pet stores are notorious for having problems you would want to be safe than sorry.

I've never heard of freezing apple sticks before giving them to guinea pigs... I don't think that's necessary at all.

Plain applewood sticks from the pet store are perfectly fine for pigs right out of the package. Two of my pigs love applewood and will happily gnaw on them, we're lucky to have a gala apple tree in our backyard so they will get little branch pieces every now and then.

Freezing any chew or toys before giving them to any small animal is a great way of making sure there is no bugs on them.

Its best to do it for two days just to make sure. I bought some stuff from a petstore and my poor little fella got bit by a spider so it is better safe than sorry and not like me where I learned the hard way.

I gave up giving applewood sticks to piggies in our rescue. I never found any piggies who were interested in them at all.

My 2 will chew the bark off Apple sticks and leave the stick part. They will chew an entire willow stick up.

My pigs love apple wood sticks, they will only chew on the really skinny ones though. I buy mine online..never from a pet store.

None of my 3 pigs have chewed the apple sticks. Their favorite chew toy is an empty toilet paper roll!

Mine like the TP rolls too, and the cardboard strip you take off a tissue box to open it.

Most guinea pigs don't like dried out sticks. Now fresh ones, that's a different story!

I wouldn't waste your money. It's okay for them to chew their wooden houses. Better yet, make them a cardboard house, or get a cardboard tunnel!

Guinea pigs don't need to chew on wood. It does nothing for their teeth.

Where from?
I usually get it from a farmer who also sells hay. Google online guinea pig hay and apple wood chew sticks to purchase online and it will give you a couple of choices..not sure if we are allowed to recommend companies by name on this forum..[emoji4]

The ones I buy are fresh and not dried.
