You shouldn't mate guinea pigs until the female is about three months of age. If they are mated to early it can cause serious future health problems to the female. Do not mate your guinea pigs if they are older than 8-9 months

Why would you want to breed? It's highly dangerous for the sow and there are so many abandoned pigs in shelters that need rescuing.

This site is anti breeding and anti pet stores.

You have to understand that you (most likely) no nothing of your guinea pigs genetics, or breeding for that matter. You are putting your current guinea pigs in danger by breeding them. What if your guinea pig has 4 or more babies, how are you going to care for them? There is such a thing as a lethal gene, when you breed two roans your outcome is a white guinea pig with deformities. You would also be risking your female's life. Do you have enough money to send the female and baby pigs to the vet if needed?

You need to take all of these things into consideration before you breed. Instead, a much better idea would be to go to an exotic vet and get them to neuter your male.

@jennyngan , this site doesn't suggest breeding or buying. Intentionally breeding is very dangerous (1 in 5 sows DIE from breeding)

I would wait and find one you can adopt, try something like craigslist or the Norway equivalent.

If you love your pig, you know breeding is not the way to go. You don't want to lose her.
