Hey all,
It's April, and I hope some of my guinea-pig-lover-friends know what's up! (but you can probably tell by the title)
So tell me, my dear, dear friends, are any of you affected by the wonders of autism? Be it through your brothers or yourselves (I said brothers because autism is more commonly diagnosed in boys), I want to hear from everyone!
If you're wondering why I'm making a post like this, it is because I, myself, have Asperger Syndrome (Disorder), which is high-functioning autism. I think in one of my posts I mentioned special interests,a key point for diagnosis in people on the spectrum. My current special interest is all things GUINEA PIG! So I am obsessed profusely with Charlemagne and learning all I can about her and the general lore of information on guinea pigs. I told the ever-amazing @MizzyMiz that I wanted to learn more about the breeds and colourings--this is most definitely the reason behind it!
Here is a poem that I wrote about autism, that I posted on my Facebook:
Would you treat me the same,
if you knew who I really was?
Would you make fun of me the way you do,
or treat me better, "Just cause"?
If I could look into your eyes
I'd tell you not to lie
I'd tell you not to do these things
That make a loner cry.
Conscious thought has brought me here
Nothing will take me back
I know now that only you find awry
The social skills I lack
But if I had a label,
Would you regard me just the same?
Would you treat me better
If my condition had a name?
The truth is I'm autistic
A label I'm proud to be
If I could tell you one thing
It's that I'm happy to be me
But you gravitate towards labels
It seems they fill your needs
When you sit next to us
You feel suddenly at ease
What if we see through your lies?
What if we know best?
Well then, we're not worth knowing
God help all the rest
If I could look into your eyes
I'd tell you not to lie
I'd tell you not to do these things
That make a loner cry.
No, this is really not an April Fools thing! I am 100% serious! And I want to hear from all of you, tell me your autism stories. If you choose to share, try to tell me how you'll raise awareness! I will be wearing a grey shirt that I bought from cafepress...it says: "I have Asperger's, what's your excuse?" and I will try desperately to find my rainbow socks, or something else that sports a rainbow! (autism spectrum=spectrum of light (through prism)=rainbow)
Till then, I cannot wait! (I had 17, my favorite number, but I am only allowed ten)
