    Re: Unexpected Guineas

Welcome! But immediately turn those pigs over and compare their private parts. If they're different, then separate them immediately. Pregnancy and delivery are very hard on GP sows, and both...

Eyes: Re: Loss of fur near eye

No, but it's likely to be a fungus, of which ringworm is just one. See http://www.guinealynx.info/fungus.html for treatment options.

Infection: Re: Is this a cold? Sound clip included

If she's stopped making the noise, I wouldn't take her to the vet. I'd just watch her and see if it recurs, and if you can determine any sort of a pattern about what's going on when you hear it.
  4. Behavior: Re: Low energy guinea, but eating well and no weight loss

First, they are NOT overweight. Every sow I've ever had hovered between 1200-1300 grams, and none of them were overweight. Many of the weights you find on the Internet recommended as "normal" are...

    General: Re: Age?

Guinea pigs are no more all the same size than kids are. She's young, if she fits in one hand, but there's no way to know how old she is.

    Introductions: Re: New Guinea Pig

I'd go ahead and introduce her. The size doesn't usually matter, although you'll have to keep an eye on them to make sure the bigger ones aren't bullying her.

    From my experience, I'd say...
  8. Frustrated: Re: Are my Guinea pigs causing my mouse problem?

Rodents aren't attracted to other rodents, they're attracted to food sources. If they can get in the GP cage, they may be after scraps. But if not, the GPs aren't the problem.

    General: Re: Age?

    Nope.

Guinea pigs usually reach a stable weight at around 10-12 months, so if they're not gaining, they're probably at least that old.

Very young GPs have small, thin, sharp nails, but they...
  10. Frustrated: Re: Are my Guinea pigs causing my mouse problem?

Mice can jump, so they may be getting into the cage that way.

You could move the pellets off the floor and see if that helps. Are the mice gnawing that bag?

You also can stuff screen wire into...

Conditions: Re: Uterine Tumor: What Would You Do?

If the hair's growing back and the nipples aren't crusty, I'd just wait and watch for a while. No need to rush into an ultrasound or surgery.

If you use the search box at the upper right, you'll find a ton of posts about vacuums, and spy9doc has some good ones.

Bonding: Re: Need advice on bonding two boars

First, you're not going to bond them. You're going to introduce them, and whether they bond as best buddies, bond only the extent they tolerate other, or don't bond at all is totally up to them. ...
  17. Genitals: Re: JellyBean - 8 wk female not cleaning her bottom/genitals?

    Nervous baby-pig mama.

She may improve as she gets older, or she may just be one of those pigs that will always show urine stains in white fur.

    Neutering/Spaying: Re: Recovery after surgery

This may have some help: http://www.guinealynx.info/postop.html

But I'd get up in the middle of the night and hand feed him some Critical Care or a pellet slurry if he still hasn't eaten.

Injury: Re: I Dropped My Guinea Pig

She needs to see a vet for an x-ray to see if she's broken the leg. While you're making the appointment, confine her to a small area of the cage so she can't move too much, and keep a close eye on...

Fleece: Re: How often to wash fleece?

Wash it when it looks/smells dirty. How often you do it will depend on whether you've got pee pads that the pig uses, or a separate kitchen that catches most of the output, or if your pig has soft...
