  1. Weight Loss: Re: Adopted severely underweight pigs

If he is underweight enough that you can feel bones, then by all means offer him unlimited food. Pellets are a good way to help him gain.

28 ounces is roughly 800 grams, and while that is under...

    Fur: Re: Rare guinea pigs

    That is one cute piggie!

Come to think of it, all of the piggies in this thread are adorable.
  3. Vet: Re: How often did you have to take your guinea pig to the vet in his/her lifetime

It only sounds like overkill, until you've actually had to use it. Punkin and Scooter's care from September 1st last year until Scooter's passing May 26th ran me just over $6000. And I would spend...

  6. Lethargy: Re: Guinea Pig not eating and lethargic

My "apartment" stays around 72 degrees, usually. But the sun goes over to the other side of the house in the evening and my living room tends to warm up to about 75 and 77 at those times despite the...

Chat Re: Just something I wanted to share.

I have to agree, I'm blessed with very good friends. They are both animal lovers as well, and understand what all my boys mean to me.

The pocket watch hangs from a shelf where I can see it...

Chat Re: Just something I wanted to share.

I have a new addition to my collection. As I stated before, I've made some very good friends around the world in the last few years, both here and on the watch forum.

Late last year, a friend of...
  9. Wheezing: Re: Weird breathing noises, should I be worried?

I would have to second ThePigAlchemist. I know vet visits are expensive, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. Your first gut instinct is usually the right one and no one knows your pigs...

Bonding: Re: Adding a Third Male?

You are correct, bonding sessions or not 3 boars almost never works. I have tried it myself. And by almost never, it can quite easily result in serious and even fatal injuries to one or more pigs....
  12. Vet: Re: How often did you have to take your guinea pig to the vet in his/her lifetime

All I can say is, truthfully......... hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Out of the 6 pigs I have had so far in 10 years, all 6 have required vet visits. It's really not a question of IF...
  13. Injury: Re: AFTER an x-ray for possible injury...

Do keep us posted on how your little one is doing!
  14. Injury: Re: AFTER an x-ray for possible injury...

Thank you for that, I appreciate it. We actually lost Scooter a few weeks ago, not sure if it was complications from the bloat, or a possible bladder stone that got trapped in his urethra. Whatever...
  15. Injury: Re: AFTER an x-ray for possible injury...

She will likely be spaced out for a day or two following the anesthetic. I've had several pigs have the temporary anesthesia, and their reaction has ranged from what you're experiencing, to full on...

    Re: Rest well Bandit

I am sorry for your loss, scoottie. It makes no difference who our furry friends are, it's always so painful to lose them.

    Rest in peace, Bandit.
  18. Diet: Re: How much bell pepper should a guinea pig have a day?

I buy two bell peppers each week, of varying colours. I don't buy green because I have been told they can be very gassy, and having just gone through two horrible episodes of bloat with Scooter I...
  19. Diet: Re: How much bell pepper should a guinea pig have a day?

I did see a study done not so long ago, about the vitamin C content in bell peppers. I didn't see anything about sugar content, but I was surprised to learn that yellow peppers have the highest...
  20. Biting: Re: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

They were thick white cotton gloves, or maybe they were nylon. They had little rubber dots all over the palms and fingers for grip.
  21. Play: Re: Plush pillows/toys for guinea pigs?

I tried a stuffed guinea pig with Scooter, after Punkin passed away. I was desperate to try anything to keep him company after losing his brother but he was still too ill to have a friend.

    I...
  22. Biting: Re: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

    Ditto with the gloves.

Pooper, rest his soul, had a bad attitude. Always did. Its what endeared him to me so much. This 3 lb pig though he ruled the universe and made sure you knew it.

    I had...

General: Re: Living in a patio?

Outdoors in the heat and humidity in Florida would almost certainly be lethal for your pigs. Not a great idea.

Nutrition: Re: Vet said 884 grams is overweight

To me, 884 grams is UNDERWEIGHT for a boar. With the exception of my new guy Simon, every single one of my boars has hit 1400 grams or higher. Leo is currently on the fence, just a shade under 1500...

    Chat Re: Introducing........ Simon!

Simon had his first vet visit today. Apparently he was a big hit!

First he jumped into his new vet techs arms (immediately endearing him to her. She loved Scooter and took his loss hard.)
