How Much?: Re: Critical Care Question

Do keep us posted on her progress. Good luck to both of you, I'm sure she's going to be fine!
  2. Sick: Re: Possible health problems with Prince

He likely has an itch. I've seen my pigs do this with their ears, and I've seen both dogs and cats do what you've described. It's more than likely nothing at all.

How Much?: Re: Critical Care Question

How old is your girl, to start with?

All anesthesia comes with a risk. Anesthesia is cumulative with a pig, meaning over time the effects do build up.

That said, I have had one pig who had...

How Much?: Re: Critical Care Question

She has elongated roots. They'll likely have to plane her molars, and she'll likely need regular molar planings from now on.

They can stop the roots from overgrowing further by keeping the...

How Much?: Re: Critical Care Question

Are you weighing her regularly? If she's not eating on her own, personally I would weigh her every morning before her first feeding. If you weigh her every morning and she's losing weight steadily,...

How Much?: Re: Critical Care Question

My boar Scooter is not much higher. He gets about 30 grams of dry food 5 times a day, from 5am to 9pm. He doesn't eat through the night.

So basically he gets two and a half Monoject 412 syringes...
  7. Crusty Eyes: Re: Eye problem. Opaque, crusty. What’s going on here?

So glad Oreo is feeling better, and thank you so much for updating us on her condition!
  8. Crusty Eyes: Re: Eye problem. Opaque, crusty. What’s going on here?

Looks like a hay poke to me. Eye injuries are painful. She needs to see a vet ASAP before it gets bad enough to lose the eye.

The vet can prescribe drops to help.

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

    Update for Scooter:

Molar surgery went well. He was a bit groggy when he came home but quite happy to be back in familiar surroundings.

This morning, major difference in how hes eating. He...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

    Update for Scooter:

Scooter has gone in for another dental procedure. The new medicine seems to work, but it doesn't seem to work well enough. We will know more in the week or two following this...

    Re: We Miss You, Nugget

There are no words to describe fighting for a pig through an illness, and then ultimately having to make the decision to let them go. Knowing how badly that it hurts, and knowing that it is the...
  13. Chat Re: The Light That Went Around The World!

I did, and I was going to post about it and then work got in the way.

I always light a candle on the evening of each day that I've lost one of my boys, as well.
  14. Chat Re: Coronavirus: Can our piggies catch it

I hear a lot of people saying this is no big deal, and vice versa. Regardless of what you might think of COVID-19:

The coming weeks worldwide are going to be historic. The level of what is...

Behavior: Re: What is he doing???

My guess is, he doesn't like it. Scooter is a funny little dude. Whenever my work radio beeps, he growls at it. Sometimes I call him a certain nickname, and he growls at me.

    Just yesterday...

Hair Loss: Re: Mental Issues? Is it possible?

I can't tell you how sorry I am. If you had told me ten years ago that I could love a guinea pig as much as I have all of my boys, I'd have thought you were crazy. Boy how things have changed.

Hair Loss: Re: Mental Issues? Is it possible?

Hair Loss: Re: Mental Issues? Is it possible?

Hair Loss: Re: Mental Issues? Is it possible?

I'm sorry you're going through this with Nugget.

$162 does sound about right for a teeth trim with sedation. That's about in the ballpark with what my vet charges, but I'm in Canada so it may...
  22. Pellets: Re: Slight Dip in Weight After Changing Pellets

It's entirely possible, and not just that but the young guinea pig pellets are formulated to help them gain weight. Their weight loss can be considered a similar weight as if they had peed just...

Hair Loss: Re: Mental Issues? Is it possible?

He's likely congested. If you syringe feed him, do so carefully. Small mouthfuls, maybe 1/2cc at a time. Too much and he may choke but he needs to eat, especially if he's noticeably thinner just by...

Chat Re: Has anyone seen this movie

It was mindless fun. Good for kids, I suppose.
