UTI: Re: Colonel is squeaking when he pees

I'm so sorry you lost him. I'm happy that even though he developed stones so early in life, he got to live a good long life with you. But I know it's never long enough. Rest in peace, Colonel.

General: Re: Guinea pigs and ferrets?

I'd keep them in separate rooms if you can. I've never had ferrets but I've heard they're avid escape artists and major hunters of small animals. I wouldn't be surprised if the guinea pigs were...

    Behavior: Re: Separating boars

As petluv said, usually only one boar will work in a mixed sex group. I've seen exceptions before, but usually with older, more chill pigs, and since yours have been acting out I don't think it's...

    Feet: Re: Koa's Medical Thread

Just wanted to give a quick update. I've been doing Chlorhexidine soaks in the morning and night and an Epsom salt soak midday for the last 2 days with coconut oil after, and his feet are already...
  5. Bonding: Re: How to get my new young piggy comfortable with me?

Some people say to leave them alone for the first week, but I don't really ascribe to that. Don't harass them endlessly, but I don't see a problem with starting lap time when you first get them. It...

Infection: Re: skin infection? Mites? Fungal?

I think fungus is a good place to start. What is the medication you got? Monistat is one OTC medication that does the job. You just apply it to the entire bald spot with a q-tip twice a day.

    Feet: Re: Koa's Medical Thread

Thanks for the advice! I got the chlorhexidine. It's a 4% solution. So it should be diluted further?

    Feet: Re: Koa's Medical Thread

I'll pick up some Chlorhexidine tomorrow and get him started on that, thank you! I know from the various threads I've seen that bumblefoot can take a while to clear up but I'll keep an eye on it.

    Feet: Re: Koa's Medical Thread

The vet came to the same conclusion, but they weren't very helpful with what to do. I don't think weight loss is terribly helpful, and they discouraged epsom salt soaks. Should I go back and ask...

    Feet: Koa's Medical Thread

    Hi guys!

Koa's been having some foot issues as of late. They are a bit swollen and red with very slight scabbing but no wounds to speak of. I attached pics, but they're not always that red.

Conditions: Re: Is my skinny pig okay?

I don't know about the eyes, but her eating and drinking more than other pigs is consistent with everything I've heard and seen from other people about skinnies. They eat and poop a lot because they...

    General: Re: Confusing Rescue rules?

I know of at least one rescue that doesn't support feeding veggies at all. I don't agree but I sort of get where they're coming from. And my local rescue fixes every pig they get and generally only...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

I'll be thinking about Scooter tonight. The pooping is encouraging.
  15. Stones: Re: What was your experience with bladder stones and your guinea pigs?

I've had two experiences with bladder stones in my pigs. One went well and one did not.

My first was with my pig Fuery. I noticed him peeing blood one day, and the vet immediately recommended...
  16. URI: Re: What can I do while I wait to get into a vet!

I forgot to mention this before but when my pig had a URI, my vet recommended picking up Afrin (you can get it at any pharmacy) and putting a small drop into each nostril. It could help ease the...

Not Eating: Re: Punkin's medical thread

I just saw all this that you've gone through with both of your boys. I'm so sorry; it's not fair to have to deal with so many issues at this age and especially with both of them now. I have my...
  18. Vet Costs: Re: Guinea Pig Insurance: Yay or nay? And who?

An important distinction with pet insurance is that pre-existing conditions are still a thing with it. So the ideal would be to get it when your pigs are babies, or as early as possible before...

Re: All about my herd//HOUSING HELP??

I've seen mixed-sex herds with multiple males work, but it's very, very rare that it will. The herd I have personally met with multiple males was one where the vast majority of the pigs were older...

    Chat Re: Guinea pig YouTubers?

I watch Skinnypigs1 and Piggiepigpigs. I don't 100% agree with everything either of them do but generally they give good care advice.

Best of luck. I'm sorry you and Colonel have had to deal with this so many times. I'll be thinking about him and hoping for the best.
  24. Re: Fly Free Over the Rainbow Bridge, my sweet Chip!

Oh no, I just saw this. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose them, but especially that young. Godspeed, Chip.

Play: Re: Teaching Pigs to Use a Cuddle Cup

That's a good idea, putting them in it for lap time. I'll keep it in the cage to give them the opportunity to figure it out, too.
