  1. Not Eating: Re: Bumblefeet + Possible bladder stone : not drinking, Eating less but no visible pa

Vaseline is not a treatment for bumblefoot. It's caused by a bacterial infection, and while vaseline will soften the skin, it won't treat the problem. See...

    Cyst: Re: Cleaning Cyst Spot

Use the curved oral syringe and flush it twice a day. You want it to heal from the inside out. If it scabs over and there's any bacteria in there, it will just stay infected.
  3. General: Re: New babies: Should I separate the unrelated one?

There's no need to separate the other female unless she's the one in ten thousand sows that doesn't like pups. Just make sure the cage is large enough for all of them, as the pups may get their ears...

Lump: Re: Weird lump on boar male nipple

Yes, he will need to see a vet, but it's not a hair-on-fire emergency. It's probably a mammary tumor, which should be easily removed by a competent exotic vet. Those tumors can grow fairly quickly...
  6. URI: Re: What can I do while I wait to get into a vet!

What exactly does she eat? What brand of pellets, and how many? What veggies? I'd assume a vitamin deficiency at the very least, but what you give will depend on what else she's eating.

    Introductions: Re: help naming 2.0

Cute piggies! Is one of them neutered?
  8. URI: Re: What can I do while I wait to get into a vet!

Any idea of what what could be? Are your pigs losing hair?

    Exercise: Re: Guinea Pig Wheelchair

What about just plain velcro strips? You can find them at any fabric store.

Conditions: Re: What is going on with my piggie's butt?

Ditto Soecara. Looks like an infected grease gland to me, or a ruptured sebaceous cyst. Please see an exotic vet as soon as you can get there -- that needs to be taken care of.

Not Eating: Re: Punkin's medical thread

I'm sorry. It does sound like something serious is going on. The weight loss could be indicative of some kind of malignancy, and the refusal to eat surely isn't a good sign.

    Hang in there, and...

It's anybody's guess. If he's doing pretty well, you could give half doses.

    Medications: Re: Bene Bac questions.

I do dose after every administration of antibiotic. I figure some of that good bacteria is dying in the stomach on its way down, so I'd like to replenish it regularly.

Cage: Re: Custom cage or C&C?

A 3x3 should also work -- wider is generally better than long and narrow with boars.

C&C cages are really good -- they can be remodeled ad infinitum, to any shape you choose. And you can start...

    Medications: Re: Bene Bac questions.

Actually, this is MUCH easier to use and dose, and comes in single and three-unit packs:

Shavings: Re: Got some Questions about shavings?

A very little, but you'll have to wash it several times in hot water before you use it to make sure it wicks. It won't shrink much after that.

Not Eating: Re: Paralyzed Guinea Pig, Won't Eat

    I'd bet on teeth.
  21. Weight: Re: My guinea pigs seem to have gotten skinny?

I wouldn't give them alfalfa. Too high in calcium, and they'll be getting extra calcium in the CC anyway.

Shavings: Re: Got some Questions about shavings?

The best pellets are horse stall bedding, usually available at any farm feed store. You want to make sure they don't smell too strongly of pine.

You have to prepare the fleece to make it wick,...

Weight Loss: Re: Guinea pig eating but losing weight.

The first thing I'd do is switch her to either Oxbow or KMS Hayloft pellets. Kaytee pellets are pretty much crap, with poor nutritional value.

I'd cut back some of the veggies. Hay has the...
