Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

So encouraging that both boys seem to be improving. Way to go, Scooter & Punkin! Sparky sends wheeks of encouragement....and a belated "happy birthday" to you both!

Re: Hello! Piggies Arriving on Monday

I have a 5x2 main level with a 2x2 loft which adequately houses two cavies. I would build a larger cage in a heartbeat if I had the space to accommodate it. I absolutely agree that a 1x anything loft...
  4. Mouth: Re: Issues related to tooth operation要ery complicated medical history

I agree......absolutely get a new Vet! I had a similar experience with an otherwise competent Vet, but she botched the dental surgery so badly that my boy almost died.

    Just to clarify GPP's...

General: Re: Oxbow or Sharwood?-Scurvy advice?

I tried Sherwood pellets when they first came out, and was not impressed ... neither were my cavies. I feed a brand of pellets that is relatively unknown, and have been quite happy with them.

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

Well, so much for an educated guess! I should have listened to my instincts in that when they have a seizure, they may lose body tone and then be more groggy and sleepy afterward vs. the increased...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

The hits just keep on coming, don't they? I'm so sorry this is happening to you........and Scooter.

By the way you describe his behavior, it sounds as though he may have had a seizure or other...

Chewing: Re: Guinea Pigs happy to destroy everything

You may not have to cover them. It appears that one side of the ramp has been edged with the plastic spines that I call "poster hangars" which are a more dense (and tough) plastic than binder spines...

Not Eating: Re: Punkin's medical thread

I don't know what to make of it either. Right after Sparky was started on his heart meds, the head-bob and forceful breathing all but disappeared. Then it began to return about three weeks ago and I...

Not Eating: Re: Punkin's medical thread

I was hoping for better news, but good to hear that Punkin is holding his own. Don't expect him to regain his previous weight. In my experience, that rarely happens. They simply reach a new normal...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

It sounds as though Scooter is making progress, albeit in small increments. I suspect that once he is off antibiotics, his interest in food will return.

You must be an 'expert' at Critical Care...

Re: New and looking for tips

There is a helpful little tool called a Coro Claw that I find indispensable for cutting and scoring Coroplast. It will only cut along the flutes (ribs) of the Coro, and you still have to use a razor...
  14. Behavior: Re: New Guinea Pig - Skittish / Snapping / Dominance Behavior

Dexter.......what you are observing/experiencing with Snowball is not uncommon. Cavies are prey animals and almost always run when you loom over their cage and try to capture them. You are seen as a...

Chat Re: 250mg Vitamin C to much

First let's address your "treat" question. My cavies have never cared for commercially produced treats........and I don't like them either. Better to offer those special things like corn husks,...

What cuties! Welcome to the Forum!

And, thank you for preparing to own cavies in a thoughtful and deliberate manner. Pretty soon you will understand why we call ourselves "cavy slaves". These...

Urine: Re: Collecting a Urine Sample

I trust your opinion that 1ml may be sufficient. However, you never know what the expertise of the next person may be who does the testing. I would try to obtain another ml from him if possible....

  19. What breed?: Re: Discovering your Piggy's breed/colors/pattern

I do too........except that I prefer to see them in person. That's one of the reasons that I go to cavy shows. I love to watch the judging and see how the judges apply the textbook show criteria to...

C&C: Re: Minimum wall/grid height for open C&C?

You say, "I am planning on attaching the grids to the outside of the tray".........that is confusing in that one constructs the cage first and then drops in the coroplast tray.

    I think that the...
  22. Size: Re: Smaller cage, or surrendering a guinea pig.

A 2x3 cage isn't nearly large enough for two boars. You need a minimum of a 2x4 and preferably a 2x5, especially as they get older. I too have limited space and have a 2x5 with an offset 2x2 loft....

Where to Order?: Re: Where to buy treats, snacks etc

I simply don't buy treats and snacks. Very little that is commercially produced is any good for cavies. I reserve foods that I wouldn't feed in any quantity and call them "treats".......those foods...
  25. Stones: Re: What was your experience with bladder stones and your guinea pigs?

I suspect that most of us have had conflicting Vet opinions and that can be very frustrating as you know. Let's start with a bit of anatomy: males have a long and narrow uretha while a female...
