    Sick: Re: Pneumonia

Maybe. I wouldn't use hot steam, but cold steam, particularly if the vet would give you a steroid to put in it, might be a lot of help.

    Sick: Re: Pneumonia

Bronchitis doesn't mean fluid in the lungs -- it means that the bronchial tubes (the ones going from your throat into the lungs) are irritated/inflamed.

The antibiotics will treat any infection...

Please don't make duplicate posts. The people who read the forum regularly read all the new posts, so duplicates do nothing but clutter up the forum and scatter the responses in different threads.

Hay: Re: possible bug in Oxbow hay?

Hay harvesting is a highly mechanized process, with almost no human intervention. If a bug is all you find in it, consider yourself very lucky. Fields of hay have mice, deer, birds, bugs, worms and...

Fleece: Re: Handheld machine for fleece?

    https://www.quill.com/is/image/Quill/s0158387_s7?$img400$

Binder spines work well, although some are better than others. Someone one here, but I can't remember who, recommends a particular brand....

I'm so very sorry you lost her.
  9. Injury: Re: 2-year-old male piggy has red lump growing from bottom eyelid.

Take a look at this link: http://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html#pea

There's some anecdoctal evidence that pea eye and heart conditions are related, but nothing has been proved. And there are...

General: Re: Guinea pig choking experience

    I think they're fine.

As far as the acidic issue, I fed my pigs huge hunks of bell pepper all their lives, and none ever had a mouth sore. They also got tomatoes every day. When I was a kid,...

Skin Problems: Re: Guinea pig dry skin?

That clump on the hair suggests a possible fungal infection. You could bathe with Nizoral -- see http://www.guinealynx.info/fungus.html for instructions.

General: Re: Guinea pig choking experience

Guinea pigs can choke -- they have very tiny throats which can get blocked. I always fed my pigs large chunks of veggies rather than tiny ones on the theory that there were fewer small pieces that...

Bullying: Re: So Frustrated! Guinea pig "bullying"?

Take Sausage to the vet to be examined for ovarian cysts. Excessive hormonal behavior can be caused by those cysts. Possible treatments, if she has them, are either hormone injections or spaying.

  16. Sick: Re: Diarrhea caused by antibiotics, how to treat?

The best thing to have done would have been to have refused the Orbax in the first place. Very young cavies can have their growth stunted by some antibiotics, and usually are restricted to Bactrim...

Fleece: Re: Trouble Getting Fleece to Wick

Fleece is nearly indestructible, and neither hot water, strong detergent or bleach will do anything to it.
  18. Behavior: Re: Could I ask for advice? Lone guinea pig making sad sounds

Another possibility might be to foster for a rescue. Many rescues have "sanctuary" pigs that aren't adoptable to families with children, for whatever reason. However, they might let you foster...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

  21. Cage: Re: Where can I find cheap supplies to make my own cage?

There were elections in lots of places in early November, and candidate signs are made out of coroplast. You should be able to get a bunch of them and tape them together. Just be sure to tape on...

Behavior: Re: How do I stop my sows from barbering?

A larger cage would definitely help. Two adult pigs need at least eight square feet, and more is definitely better.

It might also help to give the barbered pig a short haircut. Maybe the barber...

Say What?: Re: Guinea pigs wont be quiet!!!

Another thing you can do is feed them their largest meal just before you go to bed. But I absolutely second Soecara's suggestion of moving them out of the bedroom.
  24. Behavior: Re: Tips for teaching piggys how to use a water bowl?
