    Re: Have you tried?

Did the vet do x-rays for arthritis?

Pigs don't usually bite, but when they do, it's because they're in pain. Does your pig have any signs of mites? Itching? Hair loss? Mites can make a pig...

Cage: Re: 2x4 or 3x4 for arthritis guinea pig?

I agree with SSLee. But I would recommend fastening the cage to the table so that it can't be knocked off. You can fasten it down with bungee cords, and those will be easy to remove when you need...
  3. Bedding: Re: Shredded paper bedding and/or waterproof bed pads under fleece?

The main reason I'd avoid it is that paper is messy and smelly.

Fleece won't wick and stay dry unless there's something absorbent underneath.

Maybe Gimbly could benefit from a dose of flagyl.

    Re: Have you tried?

There is no research on CBD oil and pigs, and not much anywhere else. All we've got is anecdotal reports, and those are not reliable. I wouldn't give it to my pigs.

You say your pig is sick. ...

Behavior: Re: Won't Get Back Down Ramp?

Space bits of food (something she really llikes) down the ramp, and remove the food from the loft. She'll come down.

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Is he maybe trying to get poop from a cage mate?
  8. Cleaning: Re: Real-world feedback on fleece cage lining, please!

Actually, two bags of pellets in a large cage (pellets 3-4 inches deep) will last a year without changing the pellets. Ask me how I know this. ;)

Injury: Re: My guinea pig is limping, what to do?

You'll have to decide for yourself what to do. If it were me, I wouldn't have given it in the first place. But I'd certainly stop it now.

However, you may want to talk to your vet tomorrow and...

Injury: Re: My guinea pig is limping, what to do?

Does this vet routinely treat guinea pigs? Because they have so many digestive problems when taking antibiotics, those drugs are not usually given to prevent an infection, only to treat an existing...

You'd have to ask Elmer's. I have no way of knowing.

Injury: Re: My guinea pig is limping, what to do?

He thinks an infection is why she's limping? That's pretty unlikely.
  13. Re: New (sort of) guinea pig owner here...learning as much as I can!

Bimballina, we do not recommend or condone breeding. While we will answer general questions, we will not assist you in the process, and you may not display pictures of your pigs on the forum.

Cage: Re: 2x4 or 3x4 for arthritis guinea pig?

We do recommend the store associated with this site. Profits from that store are what keep this free site running for all of us, and they've got very good quality products.

Cage: Re: 2x4 or 3x4 for arthritis guinea pig?

A 2x4 is plenty large for an elderly, arthritic guinea pig. After she's gone, if you decide to get more pigs and need a larger cage, you can always extend it.

Vet Costs: Re: Guinea pig Check up cost

Call the vets and ask. Vet prices vary widely across any country and even in the same city.

Hooting that occurs after eating and that stops completely is likely to be food partially blocking the...

Injury: Re: My guinea pig is limping, what to do?

If you have some extra grids (or can get some), use zip ties to create a smaller area in the cage so that her movement is restricted and the other pig can't bother her. Don't put her in a new cage,...
  22. Skin Problems: Re: Is this Ringworm? (Hair loss + Crusty skin above one eye)

It's not ringworm -- that causes an actual ring. But it does look like a fungus, and ringworm is a fungus, so it's so nearly the same it might as well be.

    There are no over-the-counter treatments...
  23. Upper Levels: Re: Ideas/advice for building a large custom loft

There are tons of loft pictures in the photo galleries, built out of every conceivable material. You'll no doubt find some ideas there.
  24. Rumblestrutting: Re: Guinea pig rumblestrutting, chasing and barbering other pig.

Well, I never would have separated them. You've got a barber pig, and she may always be one. As long as the other one isn't being bitten, she's not being hurt.

That being said, those are pretty...

Upper Levels: Re: Loft/Built in house

I think you'll find pictures of those in the photo galleries. The main thing is to make sure there's no place for their feet to get caught jumping up or down.
