Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Everything's still fine. Wondering about Gimbly tho (who has yet to have his first vet visit still). I give them benebac every day, because Gimbly will go after Little Bear's butt. Little Bear will...
  2. Adopting: Pet mice and pig questions (not interacting!)

So yesterday someone had the great idea to dump a mouse and his cage outside work. I'm considering adopting the poor mouse, but I'm not sure if that's so great when I already have pigs. They won't be...

What breed?: Re: What breed are my guineas?

Ozzy pretty much looks like my youngest pig Gimbly, who the rescue labeled as a sheltie/abyssinian mix. He's large, has very soft, thick hair, and has longer hair towards his rear like a sheltie....
  4. General: Re: I have a lonely piggie! What should I do?

If neutering isn't in the future, and he is living in less than ideal conditions (small cage, ignored by owner, no companion), then it'd be in his best interest to be rehomed or find a gpig rescue....

Fleece: Re: Looking for no sew fleece liner option

I have a coworker who makes her own fleece. She doesn't sew a liner in unless it's something small like a potty pad. She sets down the liner and then the fleece on top. Seems to work just fine w/ her...

Weight Loss: Re: Piggies losing Weight

Definitely go to a vet. It could be a variety things (scurvy, some other illness, 'old age', etc). The vet can give you supplemental food like Emeraid or Critical Care too.

    Pigs can hide illness...
  7. Herbs: Re: DIY botanical hay or similar to the Oxbow hay?

  8. Herbs: DIY botanical hay or similar to the Oxbow hay?

I really like this hay (https://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/our-products/hay/botanical-hay/) but it is hard to find in stores and only comes in small bags. How could I safely make this for my own...

    Frustrated: Re: Ants!!!

I'm extra hesitant to spray because I have a crayfish...and apparently the pesticide can be even more deadly to inverts. I have 12 aquariums. I have covered my tanks with towels when I had an...
  10. Genitals: Re: Unable to sex guinea pigs and the vet hasn't returned my calls

Just guessing, not an expert...I think the first may be a girl. Can't tell on the second.

    Frustrated: Ants!!!

Over the last few days, we've gained quite a bit of ants in our house. My sister blames all the rain. We've always had an unkillable fire ant population in our yard. In my bedroom, they look more...
  12. How Many: Re: Tricky Intact Male and Female Caging Situation

If you use a table, be sure to research your intended table to make sure the legs are far apart enough. The table I have just barely fits my 2x4 cage between the legs.
  13. How Many: Re: Tricky Intact Male and Female Caging Situation

From what I understand - any number of males and a single female won't work. The boys will fight over her. You can neuter the males, but it won't stop any fighting. You can keep the boys as their own...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Here is how I find Little Bear sometimes. Today he was asleep in his green house (where he always sleeps - he never sleeps in the open like the others). Can never really tell if he's dead when he's...

Cage: Re: Building a new cage

Why don't you go with a standard c&c cage? This site (the actual shop part) sells plexiglass portions. You could look at that page to get some ideas.

Wouldn't pigs be interested in chewing on the...

    Sick: Re: Penicillin G Injections

How many vets have you been to and how many are actually exotics vet or experience with pigs?

    Sick: Re: Penicillin G Injections

I too have a pig who was 'saved' with daily eye drops. One vet said the eye would need to be removed if I didn't act fast, but with daily eyedrops (4x a day), my senior pig is doing quite well.

    Hay: Re: Compressed hay?

I'd probably just start experimenting with normal bags of timothy hay. I'm not much of a 'gimmick' fan.

    Hay: Re: Compressed hay?

It's probably fine to feed, being made by Oxbow. However, I never understood the purpose. For that price I can buy a bag of the normal Oxbow hay I use. I'd also be skeptical of it 'working' or being...

General: Re: Cute and funny things your GP do(es)

Lately my dumbdumbs like to encounter each other in a tunnel head-on. One is trying to go one way, and one is trying to go the other way. So they meet and get mad at each other, and neither will move.

Adopting: Re: Why Are There Always More Boars?

Do boys _really_ smell? I don't notice my 4 unless the fleece needs changing or they used the hay as a toilet. I spend my day about 1.5 feet away from their cages.

    Injury: Re: Emergency: Bleeding nose

I agree that pigs in cars isn't stressful (compared to something like a cat who will cry and panic). My boys travel in a cat carrier with their bedding, some hay, and each other. All the boys always...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

I mentioned somewhere in here that I find boar glue a lot. This is it, right? It came right off and felt like rubber.

Where to Order?: Re: Probiotic recommendation

It came in the mail yesterday and Little Bear/Gimbly love it. I don't really know how much to be giving them (tiny amount obviously) and they really love it. They try to yank the tube from me.

Adopting: Re: Why Are There Always More Boars?

Could be behavior related, considering boars bicker more and many people get small cages. One of my pairs gets along quite well and never fight. My other pair is always bickering (verbally). In a...
