Hay: Re: I've had it with Oxbow hay

I had the same experience with the 90 oz bags of Oxbow, so I went back to smaller bags. They’re easier to store and the hay is softer and better quality.
  2. Supplements: Re: Oxbow Natural Science (Supplements) - Your Thoughts?

I only use the vitamin C. Gidget doesn’t like the various treats, and even the vitamin C I have to break up so she takes it. For a while I had to rub it with cucumber or carrot to get her interested....

General: Re: How much napping is too much?

Boredom is an issue with single pigs, or pigs that didn’t have much mental stimulation as youngsters. There are some things you can do to keep them busy.

I rearrange the cage, hideys and the food...

General: Re: How much napping is too much?

My guinea pig Gidget is much the same. She’s young and seems to eat, run, drink and then she’s down for a nap. She also falls asleep when I hold her on my lap.

You can watch Theo’s input and...

Hay: Re: I've had it with Oxbow hay

Thanks for the posting about Kaytee Field and Forest. I didn’t know they started a premium line of products. I looked them up and Petco has a 90 oz package of first-cut timothy for $23.99. I might...

Fleece: Re: Newbie Questions on Fleece liners

I’ve been using fleece for several years. I buy the anti-pill plush from Joann Fabric, it’s usually on sale. One yard will cover a 2x3 grid cage floor.

I use washable incontinence pads underneath....
  7. General: Re: How to organize/store hay and wood shavings in bedroom

I have a cubby shelf from Menards that’s made to hold the 12” square organizers. It’s at the end of my couch facing the wall, so the top works as an end table and the cubbies hold fleece and hideys....

Nails/Nail Trimming: Re: Pumpkin doesn't like his nails done

Mine is the same. She moves so quickly I’m afraid she’ll tear a nail. One thing that works is to hold her around the stomach, left her up and press her back to my chest. She sticks her feet and...

Not Eating: Re: Trouble feeding Critical Care

There is also an extra fine CC that seems to be more palatable. When Lacey was ill, she didn’t like the anise or the apple banana flavors. I ordered the papaya find grind and she really loved it.
  11. General: Re: I donít know what the sound my Guinea pig is making means

Mine does that when she is on my lap for a while. I think she gets anxious and doesn’t want to be held anymore. She also pulls at my clothes, so then I know she’s had enough of me.

Cage: Re: What to do w/ used cage?

I have a large pet shop cage for overnight and emergency use. If there would be an emergency I could take the cage and she would have food and water. Otherwise I would be trying to catch her and then...

Hay: Re: I've had it with Oxbow hay

I’ve been ordering from Chewy and getting the 40 oz orchard grass for Gidget. They recently had buy 2 get 1 free so I tried a meadow grass but she’s not a fan. I recently mention the timothy quality...
  14. General: Re: I recently got a Guinea pig and Iím not sure if itís still scared or not.

If you have limited floor space, you might try using wire shelves that are made for kitchen cabinets to add space. I bought 2 at the Dollar Tree and I put fleece over the top. My guinea pig Gidget...

That sounds like a great idea.
  16. General: Re: I recently got a Guinea pig and Iím not sure if itís still scared or not.

Leave the house in place and add a few more hiding areas or drape fabric over a corner of the cage. Your guinea pig is a prey animal and naturally fearful. It needs to hide and feel safe, but without...

    Behavior: Re: Odd new piggie

I’m sorry that you’re losing your new piggy, and especially since she was a good companion for your other piggy. I’m surprised the vet didn’t do more. Usually they would try sub-q fluids, Critical...

Supplements: Re: How to use benebac powder.

I read somewhere that as a rule, young guinea pigs don't like a variety of food. Mine is maybe 6 months, and she isn't fond of variety either. The most important thing is that she eats enough hay,...
  22. Behavior: Re: Why is my guinea pig try to get on my bed when i start sleeping

Be very careful about bringing your guinea pig on any furniture off the floor. They don't understand height - a few inches or a few feet look the same to them. So it's very easy for them to be...
